I shook my head. “How about a drink at the bar?” I suggested.

He closed his door, and we made our way to the lounge. When we arrived, there was live music playing, and couples scattered throughout.

“It’s a little noisy in here. Did you want to go somewhere else?” I asked.

“I’m a fan of the blues. It’s fine for me if you don’t try to get me to dance,” he teased.

I chuckled. “I like to dance to rock, and I’d like to stay as well.”

We found a table that wasn’t too close to the band, and I sat down. Draven was about to take the seat on the right, but I patted the one to the left of me. Without question he sat down. The waitress came over and we each ordered a beer.

“Now this is nice,” he said, leaning back in his chair, he slipped an arm around my shoulders.

It really was. Good music. A tasty beer. And with the only man I wanted to be with.

Thank you, Diana. For once, you were right.

I thought this night ended on a bust, but actually, it was showing me that I didn’t have to choose. Maybe I could have both. The job and the man.

CHAPTER14

Draven

“Damien, there must be something you can find out from Brian. I know she was shot about a year ago. Are you sure she didn’t mention anything about that during the interview?” I asked.

“Draven, that isn’t any of our business,” he replied.

That didn’t sound like Damien at all. Usually, he needed to know everything. But more importantly, he didn’t sound shocked when I mentioned her being shot.

Why are you telling me what you know?

“That’s your opinion. She is here with me. I need to know if there is something medically that I need to watch out for,” I explained.

Last night when we fell in the pool, I was seriously concerned she’d gotten hurt. Hell, I almost called Bennett or Shaun to go and check on her. Thankfully she came to me instead.

“There is no reason she can’t do the job. If I thought there was, I’d never have hired her,” he replied. “And from what I’ve heard, she is exceeding our expectations.”

“Yes. She’s very good. But her qualifications or capability are not what I’m worried about,” I stated again.

“Draven, I know you. You don’t get personally involved. Yet, that’s exactly what you sound like. If you have become that close with Kinsley, then ask her. She will either tell you or not,” he said.

“You make it sound so simple.”

“Falling for someone is easy. Making it work, is work. It’s also communication, trust, and honesty. If you want her to be honest with you, then be so with her. Don’t come to me for answers. I could get them for you, but what would that do for your relationship?” he asked.

Relationship? Falling for her?I never mentioned any of that. Damien wasn’t just my brother, he was also my friend and knew me sometimes better than I wanted him to.

“You’re forgetting that she works for us. I’m her boss. A boss is supposed to ask such questions. Or have you forgotten?”

“I haven’t. But if I’m right, you’ve already crossed the line of just being her boss,” he said.

A kiss or two. Neither should’ve taken place while she still worked for me, but damn it, I couldn’t fire her just so I could date her. Now that would be a shitty thing to do.

“Fine. I’ll ask her.”

“Good. Now, is there anything else you want to talk about? Likework?” he asked.

“Very funny. I’ll call you tomorrow,” I replied.
