“You know where to find me if you need any more advice,” Damien said.

“I think I got it from here,” I said before ending the call.

He was right. This was something I should be talking to Kinsley about. But when we are together, her being shot seems to slip my mind. I fall into those deep green eyes of hers and am lost.If I wait until we’re out tonight, I know the same thing will happen. We would start talking and laughing and I won’t want to ruin the mood with such a serious topic.

I headed to her room and on my way, I saw her sitting in the lobby. Why would she be there?

As I approached, I saw the waitress from last night go over to her and sit down. She seemed upset and Kinsley appeared to be consoling her. I stood there watching, but not intruding. After a couple of minutes, the waitress got up and hugged Kinsley. Again, she brought out something in people that I couldn’t.

I was in awe just watching her. When the waitress was gone, only then did I walk over to her.

“Hi. I was hoping we could talk,” I said.

“Sure, have a seat,” she replied.

The lobby wasn’t where I was thinking. “How about someplace more private.”

“It’s daytime. Even the beach isn’t private at this time of day,” she reminded me.

“How about we take a short drive?” I asked.

Kinsley chuckled. “I don’t think having TJ in the vehicle is more private than the beach. How about your suite, unless you’d rather not.” She replied.

“My suite is fine.” She got up and we headed to my room. I didn’t touch her like I had been lately. It would be a distraction, if not for her, then for me.

When we arrived, I asked if she wanted something to drink.

“Am I going to need one?” she asked.

“No. It’s just that I…wanted to get to know you better.”

“I thought we have been. I mean, we know more about each other now than we did several days ago. But ask what you’d like to know, and I’ll tell you,” she said. “That is unless you ask my weight, at which point I’ll need to lie,” she chuckled.

“I know better than to ask a woman’s age or weight,” I replied.

“I’m thirty. You can cross that one off,” she smiled. “How about you?”

“Thirty-one.”

“See. It’s easy. What else?” she asked.

Why did Damien think this was going to be easy? Things were so good between us right now. Pushing this could ruin what we have. Was it worth the risk?

I was just about to ask when Shaun’s warning flashed back in my mind. What if my questioning her triggered all the pain and suffering she’d been through right back? I’d need to be an asshole to do that to her. I wanted to know what happened to her, but I just realized that it wasn’t really about her, it was about me. Iwantedto know. Just like I want to know everything that made her happy and sad.

It'd be better to ask about her weight than to trigger emotional pain.

“Well, I really think we could’ve done this in the lobby, since you don’t seem to have much to say,” Kinsley said.

I had plenty, but my mind felt scattered. By her tone, she knew there were things I was trying to avoid, and her joking manner was her way of jarring me to talk. To really talk.

“I do, but I’m not sure how to say it.”

“Draven, I’d like to think we’ve gotten close enough to speak freely. What’s on your mind?” she questioned.

“How are you doing here? I mean, are you…thinking this is someplace you’d like to stay in for a while?” I asked.

“Are you asking me if I like the job or Tabiq?” she questioned.
