“Right now, the only thing I will be pushing is the end call button if you don’t stop,” I warned her.

“Fine. If we can’t talk about your sex life, or your love life, or your job, then what is left?” she asked.

“Why don’t you tell me what’s going on in your life? How is Marley doing?” I asked. “Has he claimed anything else of mine?”

“Nope. He still is in love with your sweater.”

“Well, he can consider it a gift from me.”Because I don’t want or need it anymore.

Diana turned her phone so I could see Marley. He was sprawled out on the couch like he owned the place. That was funny because Diana never even liked anyone to put their bare feet on the couch and she had a dog lying there.

I don’t think I’m the only one who’s changed.

“Isn’t he a cutie pie? I don’t know what I’d do without him. We even watch TV together,” she said.

“Does he fight for the remote like most guys?” I joked.

“No. But you should hear him howl whenever there is a commercial with a dog in it. He’s a riot.”

“Sounds like it. Glad you have him to keep you company,” I said.

I didn’t tell her this, but I was more worried about her being alone than my traveling to a foreign country. Diana needed someone to look after her. To keep her grounded. Not that I thought Marley could do as good of a job as me, but he was better than nothing.

Sad when a dog can do for her what I did.

“I guess we’re both happy. I just wish you weren’t happy so far away. It makes me think that you’re not ever going to come back home,” Diana said, her eyes filled with sadness.

“Of course, I’ll come back. What makes you think I won’t?” I asked.

“The look in your eyes. When you said you were happy, you weren’t lying. It’s like you found your…peace.”

Guess that was a good way to describe it. “That doesn't mean I forgot my friends. Besides, Draven has family in the States too. I’m sure he will be traveling back to see them as well.”

“I really want to meet this guy. How about next time you’re with him, you call and FaceTime me. I have some questions I’d like to ask him,” she said.

“Like what?” I asked, unsure what they could be.

“Like what his intentions are with you. Or maybe whether or not he loves you. Stuff like that,” she stated.

“Yeah. No. Those questions are off limits,” I said firmly.

“Why? Have you asked him?”

“No.” I replied.

“Then how do you know how he feels? If he doesn’t tell you, then you need to ask. If you don’t, and he doesn’t feel the same way, then you’re setting yourself up for a broken heart,” she explained.

I thought he’d said it once, but I had been crying so much and I wasn’t positive. But he’d never said anything like that again. Maybe it was a slip, and he hadn’t meant it. Maybe I misunderstood.Maybe I heard what I had wanted to hear.

“I am not going to ask him. Right now, I’m enjoying what we have. You have to remember that he’s also my boss. If this goes badly, so does my job.” I didn’t want to lose either.

“I just want you to keep smiling like you are today. And if Draven is the one who does that for you, then I’m all for it. But if he hurts you, you better tell him that me and Marley are coming to Tabiq to kick his ass. Well, Marley can bite him, and I’ll give him a good old-fashioned throat punch,” she laughed.

“I’ll be sure to pass along your warning.”Not.

There was a knock on my door, and I knew it was Draven. We had plans to meet for breakfast like usual.

“Let me guess. Loverboy is at your door,” she said.
