Finn nodded and left the room. I grabbed hold of Draven’s hand and held it to my chest.

“Please wake up. I have something very important to tell you.”

Nothing. Not a flutter of his eyelashes or a change in his monitoring devices.

I got up and dragged my chair even closer. I wasn’t going to stop touching him, talking to him until he woke up.

You didn’t give up on me. I’m not giving up on you.

Things were bad now, but he was still alive. He was fighting. I needed to make sure he didn’t give up.

We still have so much to do together.

Just an hour ago, I was the happiest I’d ever been. I wanted nothing to change. I’d be willing to be miserable for the rest of my life if it meant Draven was okay.

If he’s not, then I’m going to be miserable anyway.

CHAPTER18

Draven

Every inch of my body hurt. Even breathing felt difficult. And that beeping nose was driving me crazy. What was it?

Slowly I opened my eyes. It took a minute to adjust to the light, but I knew I wasn’t in my bed at the resort. I needed to figure out where I was.

I tried lifting my arm and it felt like it weighed a hundred pounds.

“Draven, you’re awake.”

It was the voice of an angel. My angel. I forced my eyes open again, and this time, her beautiful face was looking down at me.

“Kinsley,” I uttered softly.

“Shh. Don’t try to talk. Just rest,” she instructed.

I tried keeping my eyes open, but they kept fluttering closed. “Where…where am I?” I asked.

“You’re in the hospital. I’ve got to go tell Finn you’re awake,” she said.

“No. Wait a minute,” I said. “Why am I here?”

“You were in an accident. You’re going to be okay, but you need to rest. Don’t worry, I’m not leaving. I’ll be right here.”

I felt her hand squeezing mine. Never had I felt so weak. I couldn’t even squeeze hers back. The sounds in the room started to fade again, and I tried to fight sleep. I needed to know what happened. She said I was in an accident. Had she been in the vehicle with me? Was she hurt too?

“Kinsley?” I called out, my eyes still closed.

“Yes, I’m here,” she replied.

“Are…are you okay?” I asked.

“Yes. I’m okay. I wasn’t in the vehicle. I was at the resort,” she explained.

“Good.” That is what I needed to hear. But I still had no idea what happened. Why was I not at the resort with her?

I forced myself to think back. What made me? It was foggy, and a blur. Thinking back, the last thing I recalled clearly was being with Kinsley. We had made love in her room, and she was getting tired. I told her that I’d see her in the morning for breakfast and to get some sleep.

She had been sprawled out on her bed, naked. I trailed kisses down her, promising to finish what I started tomorrow.
