“He’s a big guy. Like…big as shit. Think, mountain with a face. Dark skin, angry scowl. Cold eyes.”

“Oh! I saw him a couple of hours ago when I first got in. Everyone said he’s in the LOKs. Nobody wants to look at him.” Her voice was barely a whisper.

“Well, can you look at him? He needs stitches.”

“He’s in a triage room. He already has a nurse and a doctor assigned.”

“Get him out of triage and stitch him up so he can go, pretty please,” I said.

“Wait, Jupiter, how the hell do you know him, and is he really a member of…you know?”

“I’ll tell you later, and yes, he is. Can you take care of it discreetly?” I shut my eyes, waiting for her response.

“What the fuck, Juju?” She sighed into the phone. “This has something to do with the one-night stand, doesn’t it?”

“Yes, now go. I will tell you later. Oh…and I’m not coming home tonight.”

“Lucky for you, I’m working a double so neither am I. Be careful, Juju. I don’t know who this guy is but you seem to like him already.”

“Like…who? Girl, bye. I’ll talk to you later.” I laughed.

“I’ll text you when I’m done with your friend,” Jay said before ending the call. When I looked around the room, all eyes were on me.

“Juju, did you just call the ER and get Sumo bumped up?” Pretty Boy asked, looking at me with awe in his hazel eyes. He really was beautiful. Just too damn pretty for me. I couldn’t imagine him wielding a gun and shooting anyone. He was model fine. R&B singer fine.

Not King fine…

Nobody was fine like him. He was rugged and in charge of everything. I had no problem picturing him shooting to kill.

“I did.” I nodded. Truck, King, and Pretty Boy exchanged impressed looks. “See? I told y'all, I have benefits.”

“And here I thought you only benefitted King,” Pretty Boy quipped.

“Oh, look who’s coming out of their shell and taking jabs.” I laughed, clapping my hands. “If y'all are my brothers, I benefit all of us.”

“King shit,” King said, tipping his head up.

“King shit,” Truck agreed, patting my back.

“King shit.” Pretty Boy nodded.

“Is that like our catchphrase?” I grinned. The three kings groaned and tossed balled-up paper at my head. For the first time, I felt the annoying warmth and sting of having brothers. Well…at least two of them were like brothers. The other one was something else. Something sweet and inappropriate. Something I knew better than indulging in.

Less than an hour after I called Jay about Sumo, he was walking his tall ass through the door.

“Get dressed. We’re riding out,” King said without giving him a chance to set his keys down.

“I just got back from having my fucking face stitched up,” he growled around gauze and cotton.

“Do I look like I give a fuck, Sumo? Get your motherfucking ass ready. We’re riding out.” Seeing this side of King was different. He was unhinged and furiously angry. He was an imposing black storm cloud vibrating with lightning.

I saw the fear in Sumo but he masked it as aggression. I knew the difference. Sumo’s bark was worse than his bite when it came to King and that’s what separated true alphas in the pack from wannabe alphas.

Sumo was a wannabe.

“What’s so important that we need to ride out now?” Sumo asked, conceding.
