“When’s the last time you been around?” King asked.

“I don’t know…” the bouncer thought about it, ignoring the people complaining in line. “I saw Sumo the other day. He was coming from one of your spots.”

Bingo.

“Oh yeah?” King said, stroking his chin. I swear everything that man did turned me the fuck on.

Focus, Ju.

“Yeah. He told me to hit him up,” the bouncer said.

“Right, you know he moved out. Got his own spot over in um…” King snapped his fingers. “Shit, my memory is fucking up.”

“Over in Diamond Bar,” the bouncer returned, falling right into King’s neatly weaved web.

“Yeah, Diamond Bar. I keep forgetting. I haven’t been to see the place yet. Might head over there tomorrow,” King added.

“That’s what’s up. Look out for that lil crazy nigga he’s hanging out with though. Is he with y'all? I didn’t recognize him as a king.”

“Nah. He’s not one of us,” Pretty Boy said, speaking up.

“Was he skinny and kinda young?” Truck asked, a concentrated frown on his face.

“Yeah, average height, brown skin, acting like Sumo’s bodyguard and shit.” The bouncer laughed at the thought of anyone being Sumo’s bodyguard.

“Listen, we’re gonna get up in here and party for a little while. You got us?” King asked the bouncer.

“Oh yeah. You know Kings party for free.” I felt the moment his hungry eyes found me. “Damn, y'all got a new mascot or something? She bad as shit.”

“Mascot?” Truck blurted. “Nah.”

“I’m good, Truck,” I said, patting his back. I stepped forward, a pretty smile on my face as I looked up at the behemoth of a man, grinning at me. I was shocked King didn’t rip his throat out but I got the feeling he was letting me handle myself.

Good choice.

“I’m not a motherfucking mascot. Say that shit again and I will eat your face.” I flashed the razor beneath my tongue and pointed to the lion’s head pendant on my necklace.

“Oh…shit. She’s a King? Or…Queen?” He said shaking his head with confusion.

“I’m a motherfucking King,” I said around the razor.

“Not only is she a king. She’s all me, so back the fuck up.” There was my man.

Shit…King was my man.

The realization felt so fucking good.

I wanted to tell him that I loved him too. I’d wait until we were alone though. The way I needed to show him my love was private and intimate.

“My bad, King. No disrespect. I didn’t know. I thought…”

“You thought wrong, nigga. I don’t play about this one right here.” King draped his arm around me and pulled me close.

“I’m sorry, King. Won’t ever happen again, man.” The bouncer averted his eyes from King’s heated gaze.

We started toward the front doors of the club when several loud pops rang out making everyone scatter. I spun around to see a black car pulling off down the street. King tried to shield me but I pulled my gun and fired back right alongside Truck and Pretty Boy.

When the car moved out of view down the street, King tucked his gun and looked at me, checking for blood. “I’m fine,” I huffed, my hands shaking. “Who the fuck was that?” I shouted.
