“Look,” the girl stated, pushing a note out in front of her, “this is a note from the Headmaster herself.”

In black quill ink was a note from Headmaster Patricia stating that I needed to arrive at her office immediately. While the writing looked correct, it still didn’t make sense why this new girl would be running errands for the leader of our school.

“Who are you really?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.

A haughty laugh bubbled out of the girl as she folded her arms across her chest. “You are awfully demanding for someone in danger,” she snickered. “First, my name is Violet and I am a Seraphim. After the attacks and missing students last semester, the Headmaster reached out to us to come and be of assistance,” she stated.

“What kind of assistance?” Candi threw back. “We already have a team to help patrol and protect this school.”

My head was bouncing back and forth between these two as I struggled to comprehend what Violet just told me. A Seraphim? I vaguely remember reading about that in my magic class, but I had no true idea what that meant. But more importantly, why would the Headmaster bring in another team and not tell us. I didn’t like this at all.

“Can everyone just pause for a moment,” I yelled. “I am supposed to meet with the Headmaster. Violet, I will go with you now, but I expect you to give me more answers on the way,” I stated firmly.

Candi opened her mouth to argue, but I stopped her. “I don’t really have another option right now. If the Headmaster sent Violet, she obviously trusts her. I will text you when I get there,” I swore.

Candi’s face turned red, but instead of arguing, she simply turned around and closed the door behind her.

Left in the hallway with only Violet, I had no other choice but to follow her. Hopefully, she was taking me to the Headmaster and not to my untimely death.

Chapter 10

“So,theHeadmasterrequestedthat you come here?” I asked, as I walked beside Violet.

She seemed to glide on air as she moved down the dimly lit halls. It was strange seeing the halls so eerily quiet. With everyone locked in their dorms, this place was like a ghost town—literally. As I watched her, I realized her hair had faint tints of a light purple color.

“Do you always talk this much?” Violet asked, bounding down the stairs.

“Well, only when I’m walking with a stranger who I know nothing about,” I responded.

Stopping abruptly, I almost ran right into Violet. She turned to face me and her eyes flashed black. “Look, I am a sort of healing creature. Right now, that’s all you really need to know. We were asked to be here, so maybe start showing us a little respect,” she shot out.

Stunned, I almost let her continue walking, but I decided to just throw her attitude right back at her. “The others that you came with; the two guys and the new professor, are they like you, too?”

Sighing, she rubbed the bridge of her thin nose. “Not really. All of that will be explained to you soon. Can we just get to the office?” she huffed, whirling back around and stomping the rest of the way down the stairs.

We spent the rest of the walk in silence, but my mind was spinning with questions. Most importantly, why didn’t the Headmaster tell us she was bringing in people to ‘assist’ us or whatever that meant?

Violet didn’t even bother to knock, she just opened the door and walked right in. I had to admit; I was a little impressed with her bravery.

“Violet, thank you for bringing Farrah to see me,” the Headmaster greeted.

I stepped inside the Headmaster's office, and I was brought back to my first memory of this place when I was overwhelmed by the intricate designs on the walls and wood carvings running along the ceiling. Her rich mahogany desk still stood at the center of the room, with a large, red leather chair behind it. Intricate gold and blue tapestries outlined the large windows and shelves of books were arranged with various glass decorations. Violet sat down in front of the desk and the Headmaster motioned for me to sit down next to her.

“Farrah, I am sure you have a lot of questions right now, and I will allow you ample time to ask them, but there are a few things I need to bring to your attention. First, I have already contacted your mother, and she is aware of what happened,” Headmaster Patricia explained.

Relief flooded me knowing my mom was in the loop of the events. I was grateful that I didn’t have to tell her myself.

“Thank you,” I muttered.

Folding her hands on the desk, the Headmaster leaned forward. “We have been aware of some Supernatural turmoil brewing since the students were taken last semester. Before you arrived at Shadow Legacy Academy, we had contacted Professor Alken and his team. They have strong ties to the Supernatural police and their skills can help us now that…” Before she could finish her sentence, the office door burst open and Anson barged into the room. Violet and I spun around in our seats and Headmaster Patricia stood from her chair. “Anson, what is the meaning of this? We are in a closed meeting,” she roared, the room shaking from the power of her words.

“Farrah, are you ok?” Anson asked, kneeling at my side.

Slamming her fists down on the desk, I watched as tiny splinters raced through the wood as she created cracks all over the desk. “Anson, you will not disrespect me!” Headmaster Patricia roared out, this time causing me to shudder.

“Anson, you shouldn’t be here,” I whispered to him.

Violet just sat there, unbothered by all of the commotion.
