“Your guys, huh? So, things are moving along with the farm.”

“It’s humbling what can be accomplished when hard workers gather.” He hooked his thumbs in his front pockets and leaned one hip slightly.

“I find a hardworking man sexy.”

“Would you like me to tell the boys? That should put a new energy in their steps.”

“I’m referring to the hard worker standing in front of me. I’d show you just how attracted I am if I hadn’t been digging in dirt all morning. I probably smell like fertilizer.” She lifted her arm and gave her armpit a sniff test.

“Cute.” His smile lit his eyes. He strode over and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. “We can stink together then.” He lowered his mouth and kissed her soundly.

She lifted on tiptoes and wrapped her arms around his shoulders as he walked her backward to the wall, pressing her against the rough wood. The kiss intensified and she brought her legs up around his hips while he held her sandwiched between the hard lines of his muscular body and the wall. She gave a little whimper when he slipped his hand to her breast and molded his hand over the mound. Their tongues mated and she slipped her fingers into his damp hair, knocking his hat to the ground.

The horse must have sensed the building of tension because she pawed the dirt floor, flaring her nostrils.

“What is the likelihood that we will be caught?” she said against his lips.

“Great question. I don’t think I care at the moment.” His breath brushed her cheek.

“I like this.”

“Being covered in fertilizer in a barn kissing a dirty cowboy?” He chuckled lightly.

“Ooh…dirty cowboy. That has a nice ring to it.” She wagged her brows. “There’s something about the country air that makes me feel frisky.” She liked how she could be herself with Raven.

His breath came out on a ragged groan. “What.” He kissed one eyelid. “Do.” He kissed the other. “You.” He moved his lips to one cheek. “Have.” He kissed the other cheek. “In mind?”

“I think we should—” She gave a jump when something vibrated between her legs, buzzing her female parts. “Did you bring a toy?”

He laughed. “It’s my phone. I should have left it in the truck.”

“I guess that must be the bell that ends this match…for now.” She lowered her feet to the floor and moved her hands to his chest. “I should let you get back to work.”

“Can we see each other later?”

“We better.” She gave him one last kiss on the lips. She smacked him on the bottom as she passed. “Nice and firm.”

His rolling laughter followed her into the sunlight and toward the path that took her to the house.

Slipping off her boots in the mudroom, she continued into the kitchen. The house was quiet and no lights were on. Dark clouds were moving in as Mother Nature threatened to open up with a downpour.

She grabbed a water from the fridge, popped the lid and about jumped out of her jeans when she heard, “Hi, kiddo.”

She found Bonnie sitting on the window seat. “You about made me jump out of my socks.”

“Sorry, dear. Can I get you some lunch?”

“No, I’m fine. I thought you’d still be napping.” She came to a stop when she noticed Bonnie’s eyes were red-rimmed. Sitting on her lap was a framed picture of Bill. “You okay?”

“I miss him,” she said in a thick voice.

Parker sat down on the seat. “I know it’s got to be difficult.”

Bonnie sniffled and dabbed her eyes with a creased tissue. “He was my partner, my biggest supporter. My love. I feel like a giant kicked me off a cliff, crumbled me in his palm then slammed me against the wall. I’m devastated. I know people must think him terrible because he lied to me for so long, but he wasn’t a bad man and had no sinister intentions.”

“I don’t think anyone believes he was bad.” Parker patted the woman’s shoulder. She wanted to help but understood that grieving meant something entirely different for everyone.

“I should have been the one who went first,” she said to the picture, wiping away more tears from her cheeks.
