She almost felt bad for Kylok. Almost.

“Do humans always ask such mundane questions?”

Cordelia and Delilah stared at one another, desperately trying to keep from laughing.

“We’re on a new planet and you’re kind of our brother-in-law, so yes,” Cordelia said nonchalantly. “Does no one usually ask you anything?” She already knew the answer, mostly because he’d already attempted to silence them via intimidation hours ago, only it hadn’t worked in the slightest.

“No,” he snapped, looking irritated that she’d even ask him that.

“That sounds awfully depressing. No wonder you’re cranky,” Delilah commented, biting into a piece of fruit Cordelia had given her.

“I am notcranky, nor do I see why my brothers would burden themselves with you two,“ Kylok growled, though she caught the twitch of his lips before he glared at her.

“Because we’re amazing,” Cordelia answered, waving his statement away.

Kylok shifted his eyes to stare over their heads at the gray wall, as if he’d rather be anywhere but in the same room as them. Poor guy–trapped with the horrible little humans.

Cordelia snorted, covering it quickly with a delicate cough. “So... You’re a warrior,” she said amicably. “What is it that you do?”

His black gaze shot to her, eyes narrowing. “I do not understand your meaning.”

“Sahin has the tendrils, and Ezul can use lightning and mist. Do you do something similar or is it just the poison spikes?”

Kylok sighed, running a hand down his face. “If I answer your question, can we spend the rest of our time in silence?”

Cordelia nodded.

“I am able to replicate myself.”

Cordelia’s brow furrowed and she nearly asked what he meant, but Kylok’s body wavered for a split second before she could utter the words. Another version of himself was suddenly standing at his side, arms crossed, a severe expression marring his face.

Delilah and Cordelia popped up from their chairs in surprise.

“That is amazing,” Delilah breathed. “It almost looks real.” She reached out to the clone as if to poke his side. The clone turned, grabbing Delilah’s wrist.

“What did I say about touching me?” his clone asked, dropping her hand a moment later.

“You can make it talk?”

The clone sighed before stepping toward Kylok. His form wavered until only one of him stood there in the room.

“No more questions,” Kylok replied, turning from the women as the front door slid open with a soft whoosh, revealing Ezul and Sahin. “I do not understand how you two endure such women,” Kylok told the men miserably, clapping each brother on the shoulder before he left the house without another word.

Cordelia smiled at Ezul, noting the way some of the tension in his shoulders eased when he looked at her. He seemed more stressed than when she’d last seen him, and that worried her. She hoped like hell his meeting had gone smoothly.

Sahin only spent a few moments with Ezul and Cordelia before he and Delilah departed, the door sliding shut as they exited.

Once they were alone, Cordelia jumped into Ezul’s arms, her legs wrapping around his waist. He grabbed her ass through her dress, holding her close to him.

“Why was my brother so distraught as he left?” Ezul asked, his deep voice making her shiver.

“Which one?” she asked innocently, cupping his face and giving him a quick kiss.

“You know which one, Runa. I’ve never seen Kylok run from anything before today.”

Cordelia smiled. “He’s just really easy to irritate. Kinda like you,” she teased, her hands running through Ezul’s mane of hair.

“Ah, the menace I know and adore came out to play. Poor Kylok,” Ezul said seriously, and Cordelia laughed.
