“I missed you.” She took possession of Ezul’s mouth, swiping her tongue over his lips until they parted for her. Returning her affections just as ardently, he teased her tongue with his as he walked further into the house.

The door to their bedroom slid open. Wasting no time, he carried her directly to the bed. It was quick work to remove their clothes and then Ezul was placing Cordelia beneath the covers, sliding in beside her until his head rested on her breasts.

The tension she’d felt radiating from him eased even more as he nuzzled her, kissing her skin tenderly.

“Did everything go alright?” Cordelia’s fingers sifted through Ezul’s hair before massaging the base of his neck. He groaned, lips finding her skin once more in a soothing caress.

“I was reinstated as a warrior and then retired in the same breath,” he told her, hands roaming her body tenderly. Her heart melted a bit at his reverent touch, her brain taking too long to process what he’d said.

“That’s a good thing, right? The best outcome?” Her relief was palpable, a weight lifting off her chest as he nodded in answer.

“Now my honor is restored, and I have all of my time reserved for you.” He slipped her nipple into his mouth. Sucking it gently, he teased the peak with his tongue before releasing it with a wet pop. Moving onto her other breast, he cupped the weight in his hand, plumping it up before sucking on the neglected peak.

Pleasure spread from her breasts to her core, but Cordelia wasn’t feeling overcome with pollen this time, wanting instead to hear more about his meeting.

“Why did you seem upset when you came home if this is a good thing?”

He sighed at her question, pulling his mouth away from her body. Cordelia’s lip twitched, watching him mope like she’d interrupted his play time. Which, technically she had.

“The artwork we saw earlier today... It might be related to a rebellion that is quietly growing.”

“A rebellion?”

“No one has any real information, but a few senators, including my father, believe that there is cause to be wary.”

“What do they think it’s about?” she asked, unable to keep the alarm from her voice.

“Do not worry.” He kissed her shoulder, nuzzling her with his cheek. “Apparently these dissenters do not like that humans may be the answer to our population problems. They believe we should perish.”

“What?” That sounded absurd. “Who would want something like that?”

“From what I’ve heard, their way of thinking is extremely fanatical.”

“But these dissenters might not even exist?”

He shook his head, and she breathed a sigh of relief. “Right now it is speculation, nothing more. Jakkar will keep us updated if he discovers more information.”

Cordelia nodded, eyeing him until he shifted uncomfortably. “There’s something else you’re not telling me, isn’t there?”

“The senate expects us to produce offspring.” Ezul rested his head on her chest once more. His arms banded around her, pulling her close to his warm body. “I do not know if that is your wish now, or in the future, or even at all, as we have not truly discussed it.”

Her hands ran over his shoulders while they lay there, relishing the hard planes of his body as he held her. She loved how Ezul always made her feel so protected and cared for, even while doing something so simple as cuddling.

He was as devoted to their innocent affections as he was the more carnal, and that made her feel all kinds of warm and squishy on the inside.

“I kind of figured they would expect us to have babies,” Cordelia admitted before continuing. “I was really put off about the idea of it when I was in the harem. Mostly because I was concerned about what would happen to my baby.”

Ezul’s arms tightened a fraction of the way around her waist. “What do you mean?”

“Well, I wasn’t sure if they would take it from me. I didn’t have someone to protect me like Delilah did when I was in the harem. But now we have each other, and I don’t think you’d let anything happen to any of our hypothetical children.”

Ezul looked up at her, his eyes flashing a brilliant white. “I will protect you and any offspring we have with my life, Runa.”

“I know,” she admitted. And she did.

Ezul had already proven himself to her, time and time again. She had no doubt that he would be just as fiercely protective of any child they may have. That thought settled her, making her less nervous about pregnancy or her future as long as Ezul was there by her side.

“Does this mean you will consider having children with me?” he asked hopefully. He was so earnest that Cordelia knew she’d give him whatever he wanted.
