“Sit down, asshat,” Bo commands, slamming her palms on the desk. “Do we need to know anything else about this Whitlock?”

“Not really, he’s a lowlife that’s new money and wishes he had the foothold we have, but that’s it,” Frost says with pursed lips.

“Can we get back to the reason I’m here? I want to find out who the fuck is hurting Sam,” I demand, rising to my feet. Bo’s eyes narrow on me as I start pacing, the urge to punch something roars through my body.

“Could it be the boyfriend?” Axel asks.

“I thought it was, that’s why I rang you after I beat him, but I’m not so sure,” I growl, “I really thought it was him.”

“What did she say when you asked her what happened?” Bo asks.

“She fell,” I scoff, my rage building again at her words. “I know it’s their go-to response when someone’s hurt them.”

My gaze fixes on Bo as she sits behind the desk rubbing her thumb across her chin, she looks to be lost in thought. Frost and Axel have a hushed conversation behind her, but my eyes are glued to the woman in front of me. She’s more perceptive than people think, she sees the finer details in stuff that others overlook.

“Do you know what she’s like outside of school?” she asks, her fingers twined together under her chin.

“Brantley sees her a lot at the abandoned mill out in the woods getting stoned,” I say with a shrug. “She’s not a drinker from what I can tell, and she was standing out in the shadows on her own at the party last night.”

“I’ll look into it for you, because I think you’re right,” she says rising to her feet. The boy’s conversation breaks off as she clears her throat. “I need you to keep an eye on her as much as you can, but she seems to be a loner so that will make it harder for you.”

I give her a nod, turning on my heel and making my way out of the office.

“Kylo…” I turn to look at her over my shoulder ash she speaks. “If she truly means to you what you say, that means she’s family.”

“She does.”

SAM

Igrowl at my reflection in the bathroom mirror as I try to cover the bruises on my face, I’m failing miserably because my eye is still swollen. I throw the concealer into the sink with a huff, my frustration building. With a roar I swipe all the bottles off the countertop, and they smash on impact with a tinkling melody. My dad yelled at me as soon as I walked through the door, demanding I show Warrick some respect and warning me that there will be hell to pay if I continue to disrespect the family name.

Why the fuck can’t I do what would make me happy? Oh yeah, Jace was meant to marry Warrick’s sister Ravena when they graduated, then he passed. The Bowers family was pissed so I got promised to Warrick. I know we were together, but I was never truly happy with him, I was just trying to fit into the pretty box that my family expects of me. But I’m fucking tired of it. I don’t want to talk about how much money we have or play the quiet pretty piece on his arm for the rest of my life. I grip the edge of the sink, my fingers screaming at the pressure when my phone pings with a text. My stomach rolls when I read it.

Lux:

Hey! There’s a party at Maverick’s house. I think you should stop by, we need to have a talk.

Me:

I’m not really in the partying mood tonight, L,can we do it another time?

Lux:

Girl, c’mon I want to apologize for the shit with Kylo and I miss you!

Me:

When does it start?

Lux:

Now! See you soon biatch xoxo

Fuck my life! The thought of going to another party and possibly running into Kylo or Brant has my skin wanting to break out into hives. I haven’t seen Lux for a while though, and I miss her. If I can make it through anything, it’s with her at my side. I look at my clothes in the mirror, with a shrug I turn and head out of the room, stuffing my feet into my converse as I pass the door. People can just deal with the fact I’m in sweatpants and a tank tonight. I was planning to eat my weight in ice cream and binging something on Netflix, but it looks like it’s party time.
