“All rise.” We all stand and watch the judge enter the room.

“The honorable Judge Carmichael presiding.” She sits and looks up right into my eyes.

Her face is stern, but her pupils are dilated in fear. Her head tilts slightly as if in apology, and I nod.

“Shit,” I whisper as we’re told to sit.

“What?” Abel turns into me so I can speak into his ear.

“They got to her. She’s scared shitless.” Abel turns, and when he sees the same thing I do, he reaches out and squeezes my knee.

“Escape plan it is.”

Just as Genevieve predicted,no matter the strong argument I gave and the fact that they don’t have a lick of actual evidence to hold Genevieve in the end, her bail is revoked, and she will be held until the trial.

“See you soon.” I kiss her cheek while she’s handcuffed and taken away.

“Fuck.” Dragon hisses behind me as we watch her being escorted out of the courtroom.

My cell phone rings in my pocket, and I fish it out, frowning when I don’t recognize the number.

“No cellphones in the courtroom.” The bailiff says, but I wave him off, walking for the doors as I answer the call.

“Abel, it’s Josette.” Ah fuck.

“You heard.” I sigh for not thinking of calling the woman.

“The flag was just delivered to me.” Jesus, I fucked up.

“I’m sorry, Josie. Genevieve has been accused of his murder.” The line is quiet, and I think the call dropped, but then her voice comes out clearly.

“His burial was prearranged. I will see you in Arlington in three days. My Genevieve better be there.” I nod and grin at her tone.

“Yes, ma’am.” She hangs up, and I turn to Dragon and my brother.

“I need to make arrangements to get her to her father’s funereal.” Cane’s eyebrows go up, and Dragon rubs his hands together.

“How long do we have?” Dragon asks, his face betraying his thoughts.

“Three days.” I turn and start walking to the court clerk’s office.

All the while thinking of how we’re going to break her out of jail and get Anton to take her place where he belongs. As I’m filling out the forms for a temporary reprieve for a family emergency application, it dawns on me that all Anton ever wanted was to be recognized as the Admirals son.

But he wanted it on his terms.

I meet the guys outside by our rental while I type on my phone.

“You look way too giddy for someone who lost their first court case.” Cane says as we get into the SUV.

“God, how do people get their point across in only two hundred and eighty characters?” I groan as I finish my tweet.

“There motherfucker. Your move.” I put my phone in my pocket and look at my brother.

“What the fuck did you just do?” He knows me so well.
