“What the fuck?” Doc walks into the hall and then turns wide eyes at me.

“What?” He shakes his head and disappears from my sight.

Shit, I need to get up.

“Karma, don’t.” Abel comes in and closes the door behind him.

He’s holding a tablet, and his face is red in anger. There isn’t the slightest hint of the sarcastic asshole we’ve all learned to love. He’s mad, and an angry Abel is never a good thing. So I know whatever is on that tablet is not good. And I feel sorry for the son of a bitch that has caused this reaction from him.

The fact that he’s standing in front of me alone with this information can only mean one thing. I close my eyes a moment. I regret yet again not telling that woman how much I love her.

“Is she dead?” I ask it with my eyes closed because I really don’t want him to answer.

“No.” I sigh and open my eyes.

I can handle anything as long as she’s still breathing.

“She’s been arrested.” What?

At my confession, he lays the tablet on my lap so I can see his data. My eyes widen, and I lift the device closer to my face as if that will change the words on the screen.

BREAKING NEWS: ADMIRAL DAVENPORT WAS FOUND DEAD IN HOME AT SIXTY-EIGHT, DAUGHTER ARRESTED ON SCENE.

“Settle down! I know we’re all upset, but we need to get our heads in the game.” I yell over the raised voices, all in shock that Judge is behind bars.

I carried Karma into the library and then called Church. This is a major clusterfuck, and I feel blindsided. That doesn’t happen too often, which makes me even angrier.

“Give us the facts,” Satan growls from his seat.

His ears are purple with rage, and I’m sure mine isn’t any better. I rub my temple and sigh. Where to begin?

“ARIA, monitor, please.” As the projector screen drops, I hit the buttons on my tablet to transmit the news report for everyone to see.

I split the screen and show them the police camera views I hacked into. It shows Judge being arrested first, followed by the officers walking the crime scene. It appears the Admiral was shot once in the temple and found in his study.

When the video starts to repeat, the questions everyone has start getting spit out at me.

“Stop, please,” I yell again.

My head is killing me, and I need to focus.

“Here’s what I know now. No, she didn’t shoot him. No, I have no footage of the actual shooting. There are no cameras with the correct angle with a view inside the study. I have one partial side photo of a man walking away from the home, but it’s just of a torso. Judge called me first instead of 911, so that looks bad on her. I need to get to LA, but Dragon has been grounded and detained for questioning.” I pull out a chair and sit down.

I feel defeated and haven’t even started playing the game yet. Doc taps my shoulder and shows me the syringe.

“Can’t. I need to leave, and that will knock me out for hours.” He frowns and lays it on the table.

“Take it with you.” He squeezes my shoulder, and I nod, knowing that the air pressure change on my flight will make the migraine worse.

“Where’s Anton?” Willy says, and the look on his face can only be described as murderous.

He’s been working with me behind the scenes tracking Anton for months, but we lost his location a few days ago.

“Unknown.” He nods and stands, leaning down to kiss his wife and son before leaving the room.
