He’s not taking over my life again.

Without another word, I spin on my heel and come face-to-face with Everleigh.

“Len, what’s wrong?”

But I don’t answer her either. Instead, I brush past her and run as fast as my feet will go out the door without so much as a glance back.

Tears pour down my face as I nearly run home.

How could he just stand there so casually talking to him?

And Landon laughing with him…

How could they?

They don’t know who he really is, Len.

No matter how much I remind myself of that little fact, I can’t help but feel betrayed.

Seeing all my friends standing there, shooting the shit with him…

It’s like high school all over again. Everywhere I turn, he’s there, taking my friends and ruining my life.

I cry harder and sprint the rest of the way until I reach my apartment.

Maybe if I had just told them the truth, especially Holden and Everleigh and Maia, then they would know not to hang out with that asshole.

Fuck, I feel sick.

I swipe away at the tears streaming down my cheeks. It’s my fault. All of it. I haven’t told anyone about my past. No one knows how I used to be the shy quiet bookworm, besides Holden.

Instead they think I’m this party girl slut who's fucked half the damn campus. Which isn’t wrong, is it? There’s no one to blame but me.

“Lennox! Wait up!”

Just as I make it to the front door of the apartment building, I hear Holden’s voice behind me.

“No, please just leave me alone,” I say as I storm inside and jog toward the stairs. But Holden’s just as quick; he’s right on my heels.

“But wait! What the hell happened, Len?”

I stomp up the stairs without answering him and don’t stop until I reach my apartment door. Holden’s close behind me now and pushes his way in, refusing to let me close the door.

“I’m not leaving until you tell me what the hell is going on.”

He follows me into my bedroom, and when I turn around, I cross my arms and try to control my shaking voice. “Why were you talking to that guy?”

Holden furrows his brow. “What? What guy?”

“The one at the party. The one who said I’d say you raped me.” I choke on the words. Even talking about him makes me wanna puke.

“Aaron? He’s Landon’s friend from the fraternity. He’s a cool guy, but he was just talking shit. No one believes what he said.”

He’s a cool guy…

He was just talking shit…

No one believes what he said…
