He’s a cool guy…

All I see is red. My hands pump open and close, and my breathing picks up in speed.

“Get out!” I snap.

Holden takes a step back. “Whoa, Len. Why are you so mad? What am I not getting?”

“Just get out, Holden! Leave me the fuck alone! You can’t always save me or make me feel better! Now LEAVE!”

He doesn’t say anything, but his entire face falls, and he slumps his shoulders as he shoves his hands in his pockets. He looks at me, shakes his head, and leaves, closing my bedroom door with a loud bang.

I wince and collapse onto my bed as sobs take over and threaten to drown me.

I deserve this.

I deserve all this pain.

I cover my face with my pillow and let the tears take over.

“Len? Are you okay?”

I hear Everleigh’s voice and toss my pillow to the side. I didn’t even hear her come in.

“No. I just want to be alone.”

“Why are you so upset with Holden for talking to Aaron? He’s one of Landon’s friends, but I saw your face. You were scared when you saw him.”

“Great, you were eavesdropping.”

“Well, it's kind of hard not to when you’re screaming. So who was he?”

“None of your business.” I hate being rude to her, but I just want her to leave me be.

Everleigh narrows her eyes at me. “Lennox, I’m not your enemy here. I’m your friend. And I don’t understand why you’re scared of Aaron. He’s been hanging around with the guys a lot lately.”

The way she says it so casually…every part of me wants to scream. Scream so loud my throat burns and my ears bleed.

But she doesn’t know the truth…

I can’t hold it in any longer. It’s like a balloon filled with too much water, and it’s on the verge of exploding…until finally it goespop.

“He raped me in high school.”

Chapter16

Lennox

Everleigh’s mouthdrops as she sits next to me on my bed. “Oh my God.”

“Yeah.”

Her face turns red. “What the fuck, Len? Do you realize I hung out with him several times? You should’ve told me.”

“Why? I don’t have to tell anyone anything.”

“Because he is a rapist. People should know.”

“Yeah, well now you do.”
