“You’re lucky you’re a cool dude. Head to the living room, I’ll get us some plates. Want a soda?”

Holden nods before he disappears into the living room. He laughs loudly and shouts, “I love Jimmy O. Yang’s stand-up comedy. How’d you know?”

“He’s the best, right?” I’m grinning like an idiot. His company was unexpected, but I can’t say I’m not liking it. If it was any of the other guys in the lobby, I doubt I’d feel the same, nor would I have let them in. And while it feels a little weird to be hanging out with Holden without any of our other friends around, I figure what’s it matter? We’re all friends.

Tossing my keys down on the counter, I plug my phone into the charger we keep in the kitchen and wash my hands. With Holden’s soda, two plates, and two forks, I walk into the living room ready to devour some delicious food.

Over the next hour or so, we eat and laugh a lot. I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun. The credits roll on the TV, and I start gathering our plates.

“You tired or do you want to watch something else?”

I’m always down to watch more TV, especially comedy. I stay up way too late bingeing shows. “Who needs sleep? Your pick this time.”

Holden rubs his hands together. “Let’s go. I know some funny shit we can watch. Let me help you clean up first.” He grabs the food containers and throws them in the trash while I take the dishes to the sink.

“Thanks, you’re such a gentleman,” I say. “Want another drink?”

Holden nods before he walks back to the living room. “Do you have Netflix?”

“Yep, it’s on there.” I answer back. As I grab us another can of soda, my phone buzzes on the counter from where I left it charging earlier. A few texts fill the screen, and my stomach twists when I open them.

N: yah ill come thru ;)

N: u asleep?

N: o well, im still gonna swing by

N: omw ;)

It’s one of my booty calls I texted earlier. I check the time against the time the last message was sent. Only five minutes ago. And this dude, Nate, only lives like five minutes away.Shit! Why would he just come over without hearing back from me?

Maybe because he’s done it plenty of times before and you let him slide right under the covers…

Fuck! I don’t want Nate coming over. Holden’s here now, how would I kick him out when I just told him to stay? Besides, I don’t want Holden to leave.

Even if you don’t get laid? What’s wrong with you? You need the escape. You know you fucking need it.

YOU. NEED. IT.

No. Maybe I don’t. Hanging with Holden this past hour, I didn’t once think about sex. Or escaping the thoughts in my head.

I should call Nate. Tell him I’m not feeling good and I’m in bed. Or maybe just ignore him trying to get buzzed in? Yeah, like that’ll work.

“Lennox? I found it!”

I need to decide quickly. I walk back into the living room and rub my stomach. “Holden, I’m sorry, but I’m going to call it a night. My stomach is upset.”

“Oh no, from the food maybe?” His face is full of concern, which makes me feel awful for lying.

“Yeah, probably.”

“Okay, I hope you feel better,” Holden says as I walk him to the door. I can see the disappointment etched across his face, though he tries to hide it through his smiles. He’s so sweet, too sweet for a girl like me. I ignore the guilt building inside me. I’m such a shithead.

“Thanks. And thanks for keeping me company.”

“Anytime. If you feel like watching some more comedy, you know where I am.” His stunning blue eyes hold my gaze so intensely, a shiver runs down my spine. But the smile on his face shows how genuine he really is.

Damn this guy and his sweetness, nerdiness, and sexiness all wrapped into one. Maybe I should just take him back inside and see if he’ll let me have my way with him…fuck Nate.
