“Good morning,” I whispered. “We should head home.”

Her eyes snapped home. “Home.”

Yes, the word was odd on my lips as well. Yet I wanted to keep saying. “Home. Your home. My home.”

She grinned. “Ours?”

“Ours.”

Worry flickered across her features. I raised her chin and bowed toward her, smothering her mouth with a kiss I had been dying to taste for too long. Barely a day had passed without her touch, but it felt like years. Never did I want to repeat this mess.

Never would I dare pick an argument with her again.

“I’m sorry,” I said. “I should have gone after you, but I was busy.”

She made a funny face, sat up, and started fixing her hair. “Oh, I get it.”

“You don’t understand. It was for a good reason.”

“I’m glad to knowbusyis a good reason.”

I smirked when I noticed the playful glint in her eyes. She wasn’t mad. Perhaps she was irked, but she definitely wasn’t mad.

I sat the rest of the way up and noticed the orange juice sitting on the tray next to the bed. Biscuits and cheese lined the plate. A white card sat near the two glasses of juice with perfect cursive inside.

Sadie lifted it. “My mother sends her best.”

“Your mother?” I massaged my temples. “Why do I get the feeling she wants to talk to me?”

“She does.”

I stared at her. There had to be a way around that. Sure, I’d handled the woman myself to keep her from harassing Sadie, but I must have missed something while I was out. Or was I imagining that?

Sadie giggled. “I spoke to her yesterday. Gave her a lot of my feelings.” She sighed heavily. “We talked for a long time about our relationship. I think things are going to get better.”

All smiles from me. “That’s a relief.”

“She does want to talk to you. And I don’t think it’s bad. I think maybe she wants to apologize or give you her blessing.”

My eyes narrowed. “Does she know it was a fake relationship?”

She nodded. “Yeah, I came clean to a few people.”

“I did the same with my brothers.”

She blushed. “When they visited, they didn’t say a word. How nice.”

“They’re good people. They’d never do that.”

“I’m glad to hear it, Andres. Because our family isn’t going to hide secrets or manipulate each other, okay?”

Hearing her say that made me soar with pride. “I couldn’t agree more, sweet Sadie.”

“Should we get going?”

“Well, we shouldn’t waste the food…”

She snickered while lifting a plate. She didn’t bother taking a bite of her food until I was settled. And even then, I had to pester her to take care of herself. While things had been patched up with her mother, she was still trying to people please me. When was she going to learn it pleased me just to be with her?
