With Dante, she had no problem holding on. Sage knew on an instinctual level that even though Dante was dangerous, he would never hurt her.

But this man? She was right to be scared.

Axel started the bike and tore out of the parking lot like he was being chased by a barrage of cops. Sage’s body tightened as everything around her became a blur. She was sure that they were going to crash and then there would be nothing. All her efforts would be in vain because of this stupid man and his death wish.

For the first time since she’d started this campaign, she was truly terrified.

Was this how Rosemary felt near the end? Did she not care anymore about her safety? Her person? Was she so desperate for validation, for love, that she would put her life at risk?

Sage might never have an answer to those questions.

But that wouldn’t stop her from trying.

DANTE

“They’ve left the bar. Let’s go.”

Dante left his bike parked behind the motel. Vanier was driving it back home.

He hopped in the passenger seat of Sonny’s SUV, with Wyatt in the back.

Sonny tapped his phone and a map popped up. Dante watched the green dot on the screen moving along the highway.

Sage was headed straight into the enemy’s hands. Well, she was already there. On that guy’s bike.

Dante’s military training told him to stay calm, but his gut churned like an angry ocean. Sage wasn’t a soldier. Or a biker. What the fuck were they thinking, sending her in like that? What if…

No. Stop it. There’s no room for what ifs. Sage is a grown woman who made her choice.

“You gonna hold it together?” Sonny asked as they turned on to the highway and he hit the accelerator. Hard.

“I’m fine,” Dante bit out.

He was so far from it.

“She done good so far. Got the guy’s attention, got an invite back to his place. What’s the problem?”

“The problem is that she’s unarmed and heading into their compound.”

“We hope.”

“What if she panics?” Dante asked. “We can’t get in to help.”

“She don’t seem like the type to do that. She’s got brains, she’ll manage.”

“She’s vulnerable,” Dante countered.

“Stop moaning and bitchin’. What do you care anyway? Even if something happens to her, she ain’t our problem,” Sonny argued, his eyes still focused on the road.

“Fuck you, Sonny. Shut your mouth!” Dante yelled.

“Holy shit!” Wyatt exclaimed as he leaned forward between the front seats. “I was teasing earlier but you really do have a thing for this woman.”

“She’s our neighbor, not a stranger. Excuse me for not being a total bastard,” Dante replied.

Sonny shook his head. “She volunteered for this, so there’s nothing more to be said. We listen, we wait, then we head home. With or without her.”
