“And?” replied Sheila.

These two women worked with Jordan and Matthew, they were both fluent in the language of the Royal men. Which meant they were not going to let him get away with such a vague comment.

“Look. We hit it off. After the review came out, I did something that I am not proud of, but which has to stay private between the two of us. But I lashed out, and I’m sure I hurt her. I really need to speak to her, preferably face to face. I tried calling LHRW, but they said they don’t give out the private details of their correspondents.”

“Why would you do that? Her review was fair. It’s not Vivian’s fault that Laguna Beach is in trouble,” replied Mia.

“I know that now, but at the time I suspected Vivian knew who I was, and she used me. I kinda took the review as a critique of my performance in the bedroom.”

Sheila shook her head. “That doesn’t make sense. From what Jordan said, you’d checked into the resort under a false name. And let’s not forget you’ve been in Europe for the past four years, so how would Vivian know what you even look like?”

His hot headed theory that Vivian had used sex with him to influence her review was beyond ridiculous. Bryce accepted that now. “Can we all agree that I am an idiot, but one who is keen to try and remedy this situation.”

Vivian, I am so sorry.

Bryce held his breath. Mia would be well within her rights to refuse to help him. He could only hope their friendship from her time in Italy had earned him some points.

“Yes, I think we can all agree that you have stuffed up. Give me a few minutes and let me see what I can do,” replied Mia.

He let out the air.Phew.“Thank you.”

Mia stood staring at Bryce for a minute, before an exasperated Sheila took a hold of his shirt sleeve and began to steer him toward the door. “She means go for a walk, Bryce, and let her make some calls. We will let you know when we have some news.”

Bryce sheepishly wandered back to his office. He had a horrible suspicion that even after his appointment as future CEO was officially announced, these women wouldn’t treat him any differently. He would get respect, but it would come with a side serving of sass.

Just as long as they do their jobs. And save my neck.

Twenty minutes later Mia and Sheila appeared in the doorway of Bryce’s office. He could have sworn that if he looked up the phrase ‘cat who got the cream’ online, he would find a picture of the two women wearing the exact same expressions as they did right now. Sheila closed the door behind her, while Mia crossed the floor and picked up Bryce’s cell.

To his surprise, she easily unlocked it, tapped a few things into it, then handed it to him. “Vivian is on assignment in Texas, staying at the recently refurbished Silver Havens resort in Galveston.”

He picked up the phone. “So you put her number in here? That’s fantastic, thank you.”

“Hold back the gratitude for the moment, Bryce. I’ve given you the number for the resort. If you want Vivian’s personal cell number, you will have to get that from her yourself.”

The sisterhood was closing ranks. Protecting one another. It was annoying, but he couldn’t fault it. Mia clearly cared about Vivian. Just because he was a senior executive at her employer didn’t mean she was going to simply give him direct access to her friend.

Sheila stepped forward. “I messaged your driver, and he will be here in fifteen minutes to take you to the helipad. The Royal Resorts jet is being fueled for the flight to Galveston.” Her gaze landed on the travel bag, which Bryce kept permanently packed and ready by his desk. “Don’t forget your luggage.”

Bryce rose from his desk, cell still in hand. He held it out to Mia. “How on earth did you know how to unlock my phone?”

Mia and Sheila softly chuckled in unison. “We assistants are regularly called upon to use our bosses cellphones. Matthew and Jordan both have the same code, so we figured you would stay true to Royal family form, and you did. I dread the day one of you finally figures out how to use the face recognition function, because that’s when I might need to start looking for another job,” said Sheila.

“You two would have to be the most skilled and devious people in this office. I’m sure you’ll both go far. And thank you.”

Swearing a silent vow to change his phone’s code, Bryce picked up his travel bag and started for the door. As he passed Mia, she reached out. “Good luck Bryce. Whatever you did to Vivian, you need to sort it out. She is an amazing girl who worked her ass off to get that job. I’ve read her review, and it while it wasn’t a pretty read, I would say it was accurate. As for the sex part, I don’t want to even think about it.”

In his anger, Bryce had shot the messenger. Vivian hadn’t done anything to deserve his ire, and he was completely at fault in this situation.

“I am going to go to Galveston, find Vivian, and apologize. She may well tell me to go to hell, but at least she will know I am sorry.”

By the time the elevator arrived to take him down to his town car, Bryce had already googledhow to grovel when you have really messed up with a woman.

From what the wise sages of the internet had to say on the subject, it was going to take a great deal more than a simple sorry to get Vivian to forgive him.

The memory of that night with her in California sealed the deal for Bryce. Only a fool would let his ego get in the way of securing a second chance with a woman like Vivian.
