But part of her didn’t think that was the reason. It was a weird thought, and she didn’t think Miles was like that.

Granted, she didn’t know Miles at all.

The Next Day

Storm figuredas time went on, she would feel better and be in a better mood.

But that wasn’t the case.

If anything, she felt even worse today. Miles had just been so perfect to her while she was sick, being concerned and taking care of her. It had been everything she’d ever wanted.

He called himself Daddy and made sure she was clean, fed, and had everything she wanted. How was she not supposed to get attached? How was she not supposed to let the connection she felt with him intensify?

She kept telling herself to get a grip and not think about it, but it was hard. Every day, she woke up and thought about him. When she walked into the bathroom, it brought back memories of him washing her. In the kitchen, she was reminded of him cooking, and the living room gave her memories of him feeding and cuddling her.

She had grown attached to him and didn’t realize it.

What if she hadn’t told him not to call her his? Would things have been different?

Just hearing him call her his that one time was enough to crave more.

Something she couldn’t have.

Storm was currently at work, once again making sure all the books were in the right order and placing new books where they belonged. It wasn’t hard by any means, but it was exhausting after a while.

Exhaustion weighed down on her shoulders as her shift passed. It seemed to be longer and longer as the minutes went by, like her shift was never going to end.

For the past two hours, Storm had started to sneeze every few minutes. At first, she thought it was because of the dust from some of the books but once she got to the newer ones, she continued to sneeze.

Storm’s next thought was allergies. Even though it was the middle of November, this was a different state and, her allergies could be acting up. She just didn’t know what could be causing the sneezing fit and it was exhausting just thinking about it.

She just wanted to lay in her bed and sleep. She needed to think about what she was going to say to Hedda when she walked into the store, but she didn’t want to think about anything. Her appearance looked a lot worse today than it did yesterday, and she knew Hedda was going to ask questions.

There was no way she wouldn’t.

Hedda noticed everything, especially recently. Storm had been off with how she acted and how exhausted she was. It was only a matter of Hedda spending a couple minutes with her before she figured it out.

Storm tried to reassure Hedda that everything was fine each time they met but didn't think it was working. Hedda had asked several times last night if she was really okay and if she wanted to talk about it. Each time, Storm had told her she was fine and she was getting better from being sick.

But she couldn't go on with that lie anymore.

It was exhausting keeping everything inside. She wanted to tell somebody and even though Hedda probably wasn't the right person because Miles was her best friend, she was the only person she could talk to. There was no way she was going to tell her parents about this. They didn't need to know and be worried.

What was Storm going to tell Hedda when she came in? Should she just tell her the truth and have the conversation with her and hope Hedda would still be her friend at the end of the night?

There was so much weighing on this. Storm didn't want to lose the only friend she had in this city. It would be horrible, and she wouldn't know what to do. Would she have to move back to Georgia where her parents were? Or could she continue to live here, alone and needing a friend but not having one?

So much of her wanted to tell Hedda and just get it over with. She had been lying to her for several days and she didn't like it. She didn't keep secrets from her friends yet here she was, keeping a secret.

“Storm, you get off in a couple of minutes, right?” Hedda asked as she walked into the store.

“Yeah,” she replied, sneezing at the end.

She closed her eyes tight, trying to keep the tears at bay. She wanted the sneezing to be done with and then just lay down in bed and never get up again.

“Are you okay?” Hedda asked. “It looks like you've lost some weight and you're super pale. Are you getting sick again?”
