Before he knew she had been taken, he had been planning on giving her a choice, but now that somebody had taken her, that choice was gone. She needed a keeper, a protector, and he would be filling that role.

She should have known she could have come to him sooner. He knew he made a mistake saying he never wanted to talk to her again, but she had to have known if she was in danger to have called him.

When she first felt eyes on her, that's when she should have called him. He could have looked into it and figured out who was watching her, but she didn't. He was going to make that right. Once he had her back, she was going to know.

“I looked into where she lived while you were driving over and there isn't really any camera setup. I have the ones that were working but someone put them on a loop before she got taken,” Kirk explained.

Miles didn't like the sound of that. Whoever took her knew what they were doing. They knew how to cover their tracks.

Who could be after her? How did she get into this?

Was it because of him?

Before Miles could think of anything else, Kirk started to speak again.

“She's been getting threatening messages for about a week on top of being watched.”

Miles stared at him. She had also been receiving threatening messages? Why had she not called him or Hedda sooner?

“Do you know where they're coming from?” Miles asked.

“The number belongs to a Richard Blanco in Maine,” he replied.

Miles growled and shook his head.

“Find out where he is,” Miles said.

“On it,” Kirk responded. “Do you know him?”

“Yeah. He's Jared Anderson’s boss.”

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

STORM

Storm stared at the man as he walked closer to her. She tried to take everything in about him to see if anything was familiar, but nothing rang a bell. She had no clue who this man was or why he had her followed and kidnapped.

It made no sense.

Why had he kidnapped her? What had she done to him?

For so many years, Storm had kept to herself. She still did. She didn't interact with a lot of people because she was always afraid of getting sick.

Because of that, she could remember who she talked to and who she didn't. And she had never spoken to this person before.

His voice, how he looked, didn't seem familiar to her.

So, what else could it be?

“You're probably wondering why you're here,” he said. “Let me introduce myself. My name is Richard Blanco.”

She continued to stare at him, not knowing what else to do. Even his name she didn't recognize. She had never met a person in her life who had the first name of Richard or the last name of Blanco.

“You and I don't know each other but I do know your boyfriend,” he said. “He killed two of my men and now he's going to pay for it. Starting with you.”

Storm looked at him with a confused face. Her boyfriend? She didn't have a boyfriend. And hadn't had one in years.

She had no idea who he was talking about. Especially when he said he had killed two of his men. She didn't know anybody that was a murderer. Or well, not that she knew but it still didn't make any sense.
