Storm was meant to be cherished, taken care of, and loved. She wasn't meant to be abused and harmed in any way.

“Hedda, that's enough,” Rogan said.

Miles watched as Rogan grabbed her arm and pulled her to the door. He loved Hedda, but right now he just wanted her to leave. He needed to spend time with Storm.

“Stop!” she yelled.

“Quiet!” Rogan raised his voice. “If you wake up Storm, there will be severe consequences. We’re leaving now.”

It felt like he could breathe for the first time in a while when Rogan and Hedda were gone. He hadn't realized how much he was holding back while they were here.

He looked back at Storm, slightly rising out of his chair to kiss her forehead before sitting back down and getting comfortable. Right now, all he could do was watch over her as she slept. He knew there were bodyguards outside the door, but he needed to watch over her.

He needed to know she was okay and safe, and the best way to do that was watching her himself.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

STORM

Storm didn't know how long she was out, but the first thing she felt was the pain. Her whole body ached but there was a searing pain on her left side.

She tried to roll to her side, to get away from the pain, but everything intensified. Storm cried out as the searing hot pain increased and spread throughout her body.

“Easy,” Miles said. “Try and stay calm.”

She opened her eyes and turned her head to look at him. Even her head had a dull throb to it, almost as if she had a really bad headache.

“You’re going to be okay,” he whispered. “I’ve called the nurse to get you some medicine.”

Closing her eyes, she took several deep breaths to try and calm herself. She didn’t want to make anything worse, and she didn’t want to be in any more pain than she already was.

She wished that when she’d woken up, Hedda would’ve been here. Had Miles kicked her out? Did she have to go home?

At least Rogan wasn’t here. She didn’t know if she could deal with Rogan again. He was so intimidating and scary. He had threatened her several times and knew he would deliver on his threats. There was no way he wouldn’t.

He was the Don of the Ricci Crime Family. She had never heard of them before, but she believed him, especially when Hedda confirmed everything. Maybe once Hedda was back, she could tell her more about the Ricci Crime Family and what they were all about.

She apparently didn’t have a choice if she was staying with Miles, and she wanted to know what she was getting herself into.

She had a right to know.

Storm had gotten kidnapped, tortured, and shot because of Miles. She deserved to know who they exactly were and what they did because she was now involved. No matter how much she wanted to run the other way, she knew she should get answers first.

“Richard got away,” Miles said and Storm’s whole body tensed up. “But we’re doing everything we can to find him. I think I’m close.”

She groaned in pain as her stomach flexed, tightening where her bullet hole was. How long was it going to take to heal this thing? She needed to get back to work.

A soft gasp fell past her lips at the thought of work. So many things were happening and she didn’t know where to start.

Richard had gotten away. He was out in the world. He could be outside, waiting for her. Richard had said if she survived, he was going to see her again. She didn’t want that.

Then work. She didn’t know how many days of work she'd missed, but knew it was a lot. Did anyone tell her boss she’d been kidnapped? She still wanted her job, and she didn’t know if she had it or not.

If she didn’t have her job, that meant her apartment would be gone soon. She needed to pay rent and send money to her parents.

Shit. Her parents.

Were they worried about her? She normally called them once a week but didn’t know how long she had been out. Had a week passed already?
