Not that she thought of anyway. She didn’t think him telling her she was lying was a threat.

“Well, he did threaten to punish me because I was apparently lying,” she said.

“What were you lying about?” Hedda asked.

Storm didn’t know if she wanted to give that information out yet. She didn’t want Hedda to know her mind and body were at war right now. Would she even believe her? Would she tell her she was crazy?

“If you don’t want to tell me that’s okay. You’ll tell me when you’re ready,” Hedda said. “I came to ask you how you were. How you really were. Since we’re alone, you can speak freely now.”

She thought about it for a second. How was she really feeling?

“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I remember everything from the kidnapping now. How Richard said Miles killed two people and he wanted revenge.”

Tears formed in her eyes and she looked away from Hedda. She so badly wanted to ask if that was true, but she didn’t want to ask a question Hedda couldn’t answer or could get her in trouble.

“Is it true?” Her voice broke.

She needed to know if it was true or not. She needed to know if Miles was a murderer.

“It’s true,” Hedda whispered. “But it was for a good reason. He works really close with my brother and does all the dirty work.”

Silence filled the room as Storm tried to process what Hedda just told her. How was it for a good reason? How was murdering someone a good reason?

“How was it for a good reason?” Storm asked.

How was Hedda going to justify him killing two people?

“His sister was abused by one of the men for years. She got away but he was going after her so Miles took care of him. Then he went after one of his bosses,” Hedda explained. “I really shouldn’t be telling you this, but you need to know.”

Storm nodded her head, trying to process everything Hedda had just said. Miles killed his sister's abuser. She could see how but she didn’t know why his sister didn’t just go to the police.

Well, if it was anything like New York, she actually could understand why. Storm hadn’t gone to the police when she was being followed. A person never knew when the police were being paid off by someone.

“You’re going to have to ask him any other questions related to that. It’s not my story to tell,” Hedda said. “How are you feeling about all of this?”

Storm didn't know how she was supposed to feel right now. Everything felt surreal and like it wasn't really happening. But she knew this was serious and it was happening.

She shrugged her shoulders and winced as her stomach contracted in pain. She kept forgetting her side was hurt since the pain medicine had started to kick in. It was easy to do that. The pain medicine just numbed her.

“I don't know,” she whispered. “So much has happened and my brain is trying to process it all, but it's hard.”

“Not taking anything in anymore?” Hedda asked.

“I think so. I don’t think my brain is capable of taking anything more in right now. I’m listening but part of me isn't comprehending it at all. It’s not fully sinking in yet.”

“I understand. Take the time to really think about things.”

Storm nodded her head and gave Hedda a small smile. She appreciated Hedda and what she had done for her. And what she was currently doing. Hedda knew she needed some space away from Miles and was giving it to her.

“I need you to really think about if what I just told you bothers you,” Hedda said. “I know you have feelings for him and don’t deny it in front of me. You told me before you got kidnapped that you felt the connection with him and were attracted to him.”

She wanted to argue with Hedda, but what she was saying was true. She did say she felt the connection and didn’t know why it was affecting her so much. Storm was attracted to Miles. How could she not be?

But him not telling her she could be in danger, then telling her she was moving in with him and saying she didn't have a choice, didn’t sit well with her at all.

“If it doesn’t bother you then I would stay with Miles. He is going to treat you like the princess you are,” Hedda said. “I know what he said and did was wrong, but with some conversation, you guys can get through it.”

“And if I don’t want to stay?” she whispered.
