Was Hedda going to tell her she should stay with Miles even if she didn’t want to? What if she didn’t like what he was doing? What if he tried to hurt her?

“I know that look. Miles would never hurt you. I know he wouldn’t. While some of the things he does are questionable, well all of it, I know he would treat you the right way no matter what,” she said. “But you have to think about if you’re okay with him doing what he does. He isn’t going to change that.”

“What if I don’t want to stay?” she asked again. “What then?”

Hedda sighed and Storm knew she wasn’t going to like the answer.

“Then I would find a way to get you out and away from him,” Hedda said. “But you have to understand if you choose that, you will be on the run for the rest of your life. He won’t stop looking for you until you’re back in his arms.”

Storm didn’t want that. She didn’t want to be on the run the rest of her life. It didn’t sound fun at all and she knew she didn’t have any type of training. Miles probably knew how to stalk his prey and find them easily and she had no clue what she would be doing.

“I…” Storm took a breath. “I need to think about it.”

“Good,” Hedda replied, letting go of her hand and twisting hers together.

Hedda had a tell when she was nervous. It didn’t happen often, but anytime it did, she would twist her hands together.

And Storm caught her doing it right now.

“What’s on your mind?” Storm asked, relaxing in her bed.

She blinked several times, trying to stay awake. There was so much going on and she felt drained.

Hedda wouldn’t look at her. “If you don’t want to be my friend anymore, I completely understand. My brother and the people who I hang out with aren’t saints.”

“You didn’t pick this life,” Storm said. “Have you killed anyone?”

Hedda looked into her eyes. “Fuck no.”

Storm smiled at that. Hedda was definitely back. She chuckled, wincing as her stomach contracted and her bullet wound hurt.

“Why are you laughing?” she asked.

“You’re back. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you speak so much without cursing,” Storm replied.

Hedda shrugged her shoulders and gave her a smile. “I was trying to be nice. It’s a serious topic.”

“I know. And just to let you know, we are still friends. Even if you had said you killed someone, we probably still would be,” Storm said softly. “I haven’t felt this comfortable around a girl in a long time. I don’t want to lose you.”

“Well, even if I had said yes and you told me you didn’t want to be friends anymore, I wouldn’t have left you alone.”

“I figured as much.”

Hedda walked over to the seat next to her bed and sat down. Storm was trying to figure out how she was going to deal with everything. Her brain was shot and dazed. She needed to get away from everything and just relax.

“When do you think I can go home?” Storm asked.

“You’re coming to my house tonight,” Miles said as he walked through the door with the doctor.

CHAPTER THIRTY

STORM

“No,” Storm said.

She wasn’t going to go home with him. She didn’t want to and he couldn’t make her. Well, maybe he could since he was twice her size and she was hurt. There wasn’t any stopping him if he really wanted to take her with him.

He could easily pick her up and with her being hurt, she couldn’t do much at all. Hedda wouldn’t even be able to do anything. Storm didn’t even know if the doctor could do anything against Miles. He was a big muscular man.
