“I’m going to pick you up now,” he said. “I’ll carry you to my car and get you situated before we leave.”

Before she had time to object, she felt him pulling back the covers and gently picking her up.

A groan fell through her lips but as Storm tried to move around, a sharp pain erupted from her middle.

Miles had come over to her right side so her bullet wound wasn’t touching him, but that didn’t stop it from hurting.

“Stop fighting and just relax,” he said. “We don’t want to have to get you restitched before we even leave the medical wing.”

Storm relaxed, much to her dismay, and let Miles carry her out of the room.

“Hedda,” Storm called out.

“Hedda is being taken home by a guard. Her brother wanted to talk to her,” he said.

Worry filled Storm as Miles talked. Was she in trouble?

“Is she in trouble? Is she going to get hurt?” she asked.

Miles stopped walking and looked down at her.

“Rogan would never hurt Hedda like that. Yes, he’ll punish her but that’s just a spanking, lines, corner time, or no coloring for a while. He would never abuse her,” he replied. “She is just getting in trouble for leaving the house when he told her not to.”

Miles started to walk again and Storm noticed two men following them. Guards most likely, but she didn’t know why.

They made it outside and someone opened the door to Miles’ truck. She watched as the guards got into a different car close to them. Storm thought about giving him the silent treatment, but there were too many things going on and she needed answers to the questions she had. She didn't want to be kept in the dark again.

“Why are they watching us?” she asked. “Why are they following us?”

She knew there were guards placed outside her room but she thought it was so she didn’t leave without anyone noticing. Not that she could. Either Miles or Rogan were in the room when she was awake, and she knew she couldn’t get away from them.

“Let me place you down first,” he said as he set her down in the truck.

She looked into his eyes, waiting to hear the explanation he was going to give her.

“We haven’t found Richard yet. He’s still out there but we’re actively trying to find him as fast as we can,” he said.

Her whole body went still when she heard that. She vaguely remembered him telling her that back in the hospital, but she couldn’t remember for sure. How did he get away? Why hadn’t they found him?

Storm knew Richard had said he was going to come after her again if she made it out alive. She remembered that.

“I-I…” She took a deep breath. “I d-don’t want to go an-anywhere with you,” she whispered. “I got i-into this mess b-because of y-you.”

Nerves ran through her whole body as she spoke. She was worried and scared. Miles was the reason she got kidnapped and now she was going to go home with him. How messed up was that?

His eyes narrowed at her and she knew she’d messed up saying the last part. She regretted it, but it needed to be said. It was true.

Miles grabbed her chin. “You are safest with me right now.”

She didn’t know how that was true. Wouldn’t Richard expect her to be with him?

“You’re safe with me. No one is going to get you.”

Part of her felt safe but there was that little voice in the back of her mind telling her she wasn’t. Anyone could get to her, especially since Miles couldn’t physically be with her all the time.

“I should’ve had someone watch over you when I left but I was distracted. It was my fault you got taken,” he said.

She wanted to agree with him because he was completely right. He was the reason she got freaking kidnapped and tortured for who knows how long.
