“No, no, it’s nothing like that. But we need to go, like, right now.”

“What?” she asked, her voice cracking with sleep. “What’s going on?”

“Well, for one thing, it’s almost 8AM.”

Her eyes snapped open and she sat at full attention, clearly forgetting why we were on the beach in Mexico in the first place.

“Why didn’t you wake me sooner? Ella is going to kill me if I’m late.”

“I’m sorry! You just looked so peaceful. I didn’t want to ruin it. And I don’t want you to go.”

I pulled her closer to me and pressed my lips to hers. I could tell that she wanted to resist, but she let herself relax into me. Her tongue slipped into my mouth and explored for a moment while my hands found her ass.

“Fuck, Grace.”

I shouldn’t have said anything. My voice pulled her out of her cloud of desire and back into reality.

“I need to go. I have to help Ella get ready.”

“Just stay a few more minutes. I’m sure she’ll understand.”

“Have you met Ella? She will not understand.”

“Okay, you’re right, but just one more kiss?”

She rolled her eyes at me and hesitated for a brief moment, but eventually she leaned towards me again and kissed me gently. I felt a twinge of disappointment as she pulled away. I supposed I would just have to manage with the taste of her on my lips, and fantasize about the next time I would get to kiss her.

She began searching for the white robe she had worn down here last night, and then both parts of her bikini. When she finally found everything, she pulled on the robe and started making her way back towards the beach without saying another word. I scrambled to get myself dressed and followed her up the beach.

“Grace wait!”

“We can’t be seen together, Dylan. Not looking like this.”

“Looking like what?”

“We’re covered in sand. We have sex hair. We’re only wearing bathrobes. And it’s way too early for both of us to be out here together.”

“I like your sex hair.”

She rolled her eyes at me, but couldn’t keep herself from blushing. I grabbed her hand and pressed it to my lips. She pulled it away with a smile as she turned to walk away.

“I need to take a shower and get to Ella’s room, like, right now. No more distractions, mister.”

As if on cue, one of the other bridesmaids, Maggie, rounded the corner. I jumped into the bushes next to us, silently hoping she didn’t see me. I held my breath for what felt like hours before she finally said something to Grace.

“Hey, babe, what are you doing down here? I thought you’d be up with Ella already.”

“Oh, I’m headed there now. Just took a quick morning dip,” she said, gesturing towards the ocean.

“Wow, you must have been up early.”

“Oh, yeah, well…”

“I’m going to get in a quick run and I’ll see you up there in a while!”

Maggie jogged down the path towards the sand and disappeared from view. I heard Grace let out a sigh of relief, but I still wasn’t sure if I should emerge from my hiding spot yet.

“Dylan,” she whispered, “where are you?”
