“No! It is NOT fine!” came Ella’s voice from the background.

“Just get down here, okay?”

“I’m on my way.”

I arrived in the room that was designated for the wedding party before the ceremony started, and bridesmaids, groomsmen, and wedding planners were buzzing around. I looked around the room trying to find Ella and Grace, but they were nowhere in sight.

“Hey, man,” I said, clapping Jonas on the back, “you ready for this?”

“I think so,” he said, his voice shaking.

“I think I’m supposed to give you a talk about hurting my little sister now, right?”

“What are you talking about?”

“You know, I’m supposed to tell you stuff like ‘if you ever hurt Ella I’ll hunt you down and kill you.’”

“Oh, right,” he said, adjusting the cufflinks on his shirt, “you don’t have to worry about that.”

“I know I don’t. Welcome to the family, brother.”

Jonas smiled at me, though clearly still nervous.

“Speaking of your beautiful bride, where is she?”

“Oh, um, there’s a separate room for the bride. Can’t see her before the ceremony, you know.”

“Right, thanks.”

I left the room and wandered down the hall, hoping that it wouldn’t be too hard to find the bride’s room. Before I had even taken ten steps, I heard Grace’s laughter ring out from one of the rooms. I couldn’t help the idiotic smile that crossed my face as I listened.

I knocked on the door and cracked it open, immediately seeing Ella looking like the most stunning bride I had ever seen. My eyes travelled to Grace and I felt my breath catch. She was a Greek goddess, dressed in a gold gown that hugged every curve just right. Her sun-kissed skin was tanned and perfect, and I couldn’t pull my eyes from her.

Grace smiled at me as I entered the room, and I had to force myself to look back at Ella.

“You look absolutely incredible,” I told her as I kissed her cheek. “Are you ready for this?”

Ella nodded her head with tears in her eyes and pulled me into a tight hug.

“Mom and Dad are so proud of you,” I whispered.

Grace appeared beside me with a tissue in her hand for Ella. She dabbed at her face and let out a long breath.

“Let’s do this.”

GRACE

After the world’s fastest shower, I ran down to the elevator and headed up to Ella’s suite, where I should have been almost an hour ago. When she opened the door, Ella was close to tears, and I knew it was all my fault.

“I thought you weren’t coming!”

“What? Of course I’m coming. I’m sorry I’m late. I overslept.”

“Well, it doesn’t matter because the makeup artist isn’t here yet, so I can’t even start getting ready!”

“Don’t worry, Ella. Everything is going to work out. I promise.”
