He disconnected, placed the phone on the countertop, and plugged in the charger. Then he strode to the bathroom.

Rhett stopped his truck at her house at six, picked up the rose, and glanced at the kennels. He frowned when he saw snow flurries floating through the beams of the lights above the door.

Making his way to the porch, he knocked on the back door and waited but she didn’t answer. He opened the door and called her name. He sure didn’t need to get hit on the head again. As he glanced around the kitchen, he stepped inside but didn’t see her, so he walked into the living room and stopped dead in his tracks. Cin stood in the center of the room in a short black dress that fit like a glove. She had her hands folded in front of her. On her feet were black stilettos. She walked to Rhett and stopped in front of him. He handed her the rose from behind his back. She gasped.

“Do I look okay?” she asked him. She put her nose in the rose. In those heels, she was almost as tall as he was.

He ran his eyes down over her. The dress ended above her knees. He knew she had great legs, but they looked even better with that dress and those heels. Her hair was in waves around her shoulders. Her make-up was perfect, and red lipstick covered her lush lips. He closed his eyes and groaned.

“Do you look okay? How about we say the hell with dinner and a movie and stay here? I’d love to peel that dress off you.” He touched her hair.

“Oh, you can peel it off when we come back. You promised me dinner and a movie.”

Rhett shook his head. “How the hell am I supposed to make it through dinneranda movie knowing I get to take that dress off of you when we come back?”

“You can do it. I have faith in you.”

“Hell, let’s go so we can get back. I’m glad someone shoveled the walk because it’s snowing.”

“I didn’t think it was calling for snow.”

“You know here in Clifton and surrounding areas; it’s always calling for snow in the winter.” He grinned.

****

Lucinda stared at him. He looked so handsome in a red dress shirt tucked into dark blue jeans and black cowboy boots on his feet.

“You look yummy.” She lightly kissed his lips. He reached for her, but she pulled away. “No. Dinner and a movie first.”

Rhett picked up her coat and held it for her. “Let’s get it done with, then.” Lucinda pulled back from him. He looked at her, then sighed. “I’m sorry. But you look so good.”

She put her arms around his neck and whispered in his ear. “We have all night, Rhett. All night.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry. If you’re ready, darlin’, let’s eat. I’m starving.”

“No need to be sorry. The anticipation will make it sweeter.”

He held her coat, and she slipped her arms into it. He kissed her neck when he lifted her hair from the inside of her jacket. She shivered, and felt him grin against her neck. She turned to look at him.

“You’re being bad, Rhett.”

He laughed. “Okay, I’ll behave. Let’s go. The snow was laying, so we’d better go now.”

They walked outside, and Lucinda was surprised to see a beautiful black Chevy Silverado. It wasn’t the truck he usually drove.

Rhett opened the passenger door for her. She got in, and he went around to get in the driver’s seat. She ran her hand over the leather interior. Rhett got in and put his seat belt on. He started the car, smiled at Lucinda, and drove them to the restaurant. Lucinda kept glancing over at him. He never took his eyes off the road, making her feel safe with him.

Twenty minutes later, they pulled into the parking lot to see it packed. Lucinda looked at Rhett. He grinned.

“I made a reservation.” He got out and went around her side and opened her door. He put his hand out to her. She placed hers in his and stepped out. He didn’t move back, and their bodies touched. Rhett stepped back.

“Now, who’s being bad?” He raised an eyebrow at her.

Lucinda stepped away so he could close the car door and smiled. He took her hand in his, and they walked into the restaurant.

The hostess had them follow her to a corner table. After removing their coats and placing them on empty chairs, Rhett set his hat on them. Lucinda sat on one side, and Rhett sat opposite her. The waitress came by with menus and flirted outrageously with Rhett. He seemed unaware of anything but Lucinda. They looked over the menus. Lucinda ordered chicken Alfredo, and Rhett ordered a ribeye. They were enjoying the meal and having a pleasant conversation when Lucinda noticed a woman walking toward them. She stopped by the table. Rhett looked at her and stood.

“Hi, Rhett,” she said in a smoky voice.
