“Hey, Mitzie. This is Lucinda Williams. Lucinda, this is Mitzie Moore, Calder’s wife.”
Lucinda inwardly sighed with relief. She was ready to hate the woman. Mitzie was a stunning woman. She was tall, with black hair and light blue eyes. Lucinda smiled at her and put her hand out to her.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mitzie.”
“You too, Lucinda.” Mitzie smiled at her.
“Please call me Cinda.”
“All right, Cinda.”
“Is Calder with you?” Rhett asked.
“Yes, we’re sitting over there with Grant and Jessa. I was on my way back from the restroom when I saw you. You should join us.”
“We don’t want to intrude,” Rhett said.
“I’m sure it’s no intrusion. Landry and Kay are meeting us too.”
Lucinda looked at Rhett and could see he wasn’t sure if she wanted to join them. She smiled.
“We’d love to if you’re sure it’s all right.”
“It is. Let your server know, then join us.” Mitzie smiled at Lucinda, then walked off. Rhett watched her slide onto a bench seat in a booth.
“She’s gorgeous.”
“And can make a sailor blush.” Rhett laughed.
“Her? She can make a sailor blush?”
“Oh yeah. You know Olivia Stone, right?” At her nod, Rhett continued. “I think they were separated at birth.”
Lucinda sputtered out a laugh. “I like them.”
“We all do.” Rhett slid into the booth but got back up, making Lucinda frown.
“Rhett. Mitzie told me you were here.”
“Hey, Calder. She invited us to sit with you.”
“Then why are you still here? Hey, Cinda. How are you doing?”
“Just fine, Calder. You?”
“Good. I’ll let Grant know, and we’ll add some chairs. Come over when you’re ready.” Calder nodded, then strode back to the table.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
Rhett frowned. “About what?”
“He’s ugly as sin.”
“Shut up,” he said, but laughed when she did.
After letting their server know they were moving, they stood, picked up their coats, then walked across the room to join the others. As the night went on, Lucinda was sure she’d never laughed so much. Her cheeks hurt.
“Is everyone ready for Christmas?” Jessa asked.
