“No,” everyone said simultaneously and laughed.

“I have a wonderful present for you, Calder,” Mitzie said.

“I don’t want to know. I’d like to make it through dinner first.”

“Whatever do you mean?”

Calder stared at his wife. “Because I know you, Marianne Patterson Moore, you will not behave.”

Mitzie laughed and placed her head on his shoulder.

“You know me too well.”

Lucinda smiled. She loved what all the couples had. They seemed so in love, and she wanted that so much. She looked at Rhett to see him looking at her, then he winked. He chuckled when she winked back.

“What are you doing after dinner?” Grant asked Rhett.

“Seeing a movie. Y’all want to go?”

“No thanks. We’re heading to Dewey’s making a night of it.” Grant tilted his head. “You could join us.”

Rhett looked at Lucinda and then at Grant.

“I think we’ll see a movie. Maybe next time.”

“Anytime.” Grant raised his hand to a server, and she approached the table. “I’m taking care of all of this, Deb.”

“Yes, sir, Mr. Hunter.” She smiled and then walked off to the kitchen.

“You didn’t have to do that, Grant,” Lucinda said.

Grant smiled. “I know. Enjoy your movie.” He got to his feet, helped Jessa up, and they left after wishing everyone a good night.

Once they got to Lucinda’s house, the snow was getting worse. Rhett stopped the truck, and she looked at him to see him staring back. She lifted her lips slowly.

“Didn’t you say something earlier about peeling me out of this dress?”

She laughed when he threw the door open, jumped out and fell to his knees in the snow, then got up and ran around the front of the truck to her door, and opened it. He grinned at her, pulled her out, and carried her into the house.

Rhett was in the barn putting fresh straw down when he looked up and saw Calder and Mitzie standing in the barn doorway. He walked to them.

“To what do I owe this visit?” Rhett asked.

“We’re heading out for a ride.” Calder rolled his eyes, making Rhett grin.

“A little chilly for that.”

“You ride in the cold all the time.” Mitzie frowned.

“Yes, but remember the day you went with me? You didn’t make it very far before turning back.”

“Yes, but it’s so invigorating.”

“It’s why I enjoy it.”

“We’ve decided to go to Nashville the week of Christmas with Grant and Jessa. We’ll have dinner at Mitzie’s parents’ house. All of us. Including Andrew and Tina.” Calder grinned.
