“I need to pick up our rental.” He took her hand and led her to the car rental kiosk.

Once on the road, Lucinda’s nerves kicked in, and she wrung her hands.

“They’ll love you.” Rhett took her hand in his.

“I’ve never met a man’s parents before.”

“It’ll be fine. My parents, brother, and sister-in-law are great.”

“I’m sure. It’s just… I don’t know.”

“I get it, sweetheart. Just be yourself.”

“Okay.”

When Rhett slowed the truck and pulled into a driveway, she placed her hand on her belly, trying to calm herself, but it wasn’t working. She sat up when she saw the ranch-style home and surrounding land.

“It’s beautiful.”

“It’s a great place. They raise mini horses.”

“I’d love to see them.”

“No problem. Once we settle in, we can walk to the barn.”

Lucinda nodded but said nothing. Her nerves were going into overdrive.

Rhett stopped at the front of the house and grinned when he saw his brother step onto the porch.

“Is that your brother?” Cin asked him.

“Yes. That’s Nate.”

“You look alike.”

“So we’ve been told.” He grinned at her, then opened his door and exited the truck. He ran up the steps and hugged his brother.

“Damn, it’s good to see you again,” Rhett said.

“You just saw me at Thanksgiving.” Nate grinned.

“I like your ugly mug.” Rhett laughed.

“As I’ve said before, we look alike.” Nate looked over his shoulder at the truck. “Is that her?”

“No. That’s some woman I picked up on the road.” Rhett frowned. “Of course, it’s her.”

“Smartass.” Nate smiled. “Hi. My brother seems to have forgotten his manners. Let me help you with your luggage.”

“Thank you. I’ll forgive him this time, but not again.” Cin grinned.

“Good for you.” Nate walked down the steps. “I’m Nate. Rhett’s brother.”

“Nice to meet you, Nate. I’m Lucinda, but everyone calls me Cinda except Rhett. He calls me Cin.”

“Is that right?” Nate glanced over his shoulder at Rhett and grinned.
