“Oh yeah? How did it make you feel when that hot guy was all over me?” I have no idea what I’m doing, but I want to see if he was as affected as I was by someone else touching him.

He stiffens slightly, and I know I’m right; we were both jealous. Which is ridiculous, as we’ve agreed to be ‘just friends’. He growls low into my hair, finding my earlobe again and nipping it between his teeth. My knees wobble and I have to grip the edge of the bar to stay upright.

“Grayson…” God, why do I have to be so breathless around him? I’m not exactly sure why I’m saying his name at all. What am I going to say next? We’re in public, for goodness’ sake. Just as I realise that fact, the fog of him clears in an instant and I slip myself free from his cage. My body is pretty mad at me, but my brain is pretty happy that it won this time.

Wide eyed, Grayson stares at me as he licks his lips, which sends a direct pulse of arousal to my clit. Needy little thing when he’s around, it’s becoming a problem.

“You can’t just say my name like a prayer like you just did and then ignore me all night,” he says, finally breaking the spell between us. I straighten, ignore the feelings flooding my body, and finally grab my shot from the bar.

“Watch me,” I say, throwing back the tequila before walking away, swaying my hips just a little more than usual because I know… no, I secretly hope he’s watching my every step.

When I get back to the VIP area, more dancers are on stage, while Zoey’s brothers get their own private show. Zoey pulls me into the seat next to her and laughs.

“Thirty seconds – that’s all it took for Liam to push the stripper off his lap and move Jess onto him instead,” Zoey says, rolling with laughter. “The poor man looked ailed.”

I look over to the other side of the small area, where Jess is still on Liam’s lap. It’s adorable. She gives me a finger wave and points to Liam, who has a vice grip around her waist, and rolls her eyes playfully. Seriously, this guy shouldn’t exist. He ticks all kinds of boxes for a perfect book boyfriend and Jess gets to keep him forever.

“Who is that guy with Grayson?” Zoey says, with a deep growl in her throat. Jess comes to join us on our side as I spin to look at the man she’s spotted and Zoey groans. “Real subtle Nor, your head spun faster than the Exorcist.”

I look at Zoey and give her a weak smile, silently apologising to her, then look back at the guy she’s talking about. “Oh, he’s here. I think that’s Harrison. He runs an I.T company and I’m pretty sure Grayson brought him in to update all of Liam’s office tech,” Jess says.

“Well, he is all kinds of delicious. I mean, look at that… ruggedness. I’d climb him like a tree,” Zoey practically growls, tipping back the last of her champagne.

“I heard he has a girlfriend,” Jess says, glancing over at Harrison too.

“Of course he does. Look at him. Ugh, lucky bitch. Whoever she is.”

I look at Harrison again. Grayson is talking animatedly with him at the bar a few feet away. Sure, he’s hot, but Grayson is the one who keeps my attention and that annoys me and turns me on too – I’m a mess. I’ve never had such a reaction to someone before. Maybe it’s just physical. The stars have aligned for us to share an insane physical connection, that’s all it is.

But what if… my brain clearly wants to play devil’s advocate tonight. But what if it isn’t?

An hour or so later, I glance over to the dancefloor, and I can just about spot Zoey. She is absolutely trashed. She’s debatably had the best time tonight, sweet talking every single hot-blooded male and flirting with bartenders. It’s amusing to watch as she sways to the music that is in her head and not the sounds blaring through the speakers right now.

Jess nudges my arm, her sleepy eyes finding mine. “When is my lover boy coming back?” she slurs then hiccups. Jess has had a lot of tequila and a tequila drunk Jess gets soppy and wants snuggles and Liam.

“Soon, sweetheart. He’s just in the bathroom.” I pat her head as she buries it into my shoulder.

The rest of the party has gone, leaving me Zoey, Grayson, Jess and Liam, and given that it’s 1am right now, I don’t blame them. Even with my tequila high, I’m sleepy. I honestly don’t know where Zoey gets her energy from.

Liam comes back around the corner with a lovesick look in his eyes when he spots Jess. “Oh, my girl,” he coos. He bends down to whisper in her ear, and she immediately perks up and throws herself at him.

I hadn’t realised that Grayson had sat next to me until he speaks, “It’s sickening how perfect they are for one another, right?”

My head turns to find him close… too close. His voice echoes in my bones, vibrating through every nerve I have. He smells so fucking good. Although I was a little weak when I could smell my cupcake soap on him, I can’t lie. But his masculine scent is bergamot, with a hint of warmth, and it fills my already dizzy head. His presence is feeding my desperation for him, which is something I’m not proud to admit.

The top two buttons of his black shirt are undone, and I can’t help but look at the skin showing. I can see his ink peeking out, begging for me to touch it. But I can’t, not here. My skin sizzles with need. I feel like a raging inferno and he’s the one who lit the match.

“Yeah, they’re adorable.” I look back at Jess and Liam, and Jess has her head buried into Liam’s neck and he looks happier than a pig in shit. Meanwhile, I swipe away the bead of sweat that is threatening to form on my upper lip from his proximity.

Grayson stretches out his arm, resting on the booth behind me, and scoots closer. Every cell in my body is in a battle with my brain right now. I want him to touch me and I’m pretty sure he knows it, but he’s only touching me ever so slightly with his thigh. Teasing me seems to be his speciality.

“How’s the ignoring me going?” he asks casually. His finger lazily traces over the thin strap of my dress on my shoulder and down to the skin on my exposed back, and my body is possessed with a shiver so fierce that it forced a noise from my throat instead of letting me form any kind of coherent answer to his question. I glance at Grayson as he stares at me, smirking at exactly the same time as Liam looks over to us, his brows furrowing in a silent question. I jump to my feet, suddenly feeling like I’m fielding a thousand fire ants marching merrily along my skin.

I can’t have Grayson touching me right now. I need to get away from him, so I bolt to somewhere I know he can’t follow. “I’m going to the bathroom,” I shriek, gaining far too much attention than I need to.

After I wash up, I stare at my reflection, psyching myself up for another encounter. You’ve got this. You are in charge, not your vagina,I mutter to myself, running my hands down the front of my dress. As I walk out of the bathroom, determined to not sit next to Grayson again, I feel an arm tug me into the darkness of the hallway.

The light is dim in here, but enough that I can make him out, more than that though, but I know it’s him. I’m immediately hit by his scent. In the darkness, it spreads over my body like smoke, drifting around me, choking me into submission. “Take off your underwear, Nora.” His voice is deep, and purrs at me like a fucking tiger, dead set on eating me alive.
