By boys, I could only assume she meant her friends: Enzo, Rex and Santino. Just fucking great. My least favorite people in the world. “Why?”

“I called them. We need all the help we can get.” She rummaged through one of her huge suitcases that were brought here yesterday. “The Gala is tonight.”

“That again.”

“Your uncle is trying to prove to me that there’s nothing illicit going on at his club. This is the only chance I’ll have to get in. You know that.” She tossed a top on the bed and stopped to look at me.

If her tits weren’t taunting me right now, I would’ve found a way to say no to her insane plan. “We don’t know it’s his club.”

“He has a lot of sway there, that’s for sure.” She put a pair of pants up against the top, then seemingly satisfied, she dropped it on the bed too. “I’m going to shower then we can meet the guys for breakfast.”

“We’re having breakfast with your friends?” I rubbed my eyes. “You gotta give me a minute here. I feel like you just hijacked my life.”

“You’re cute.” She climbed on the bed and crawled across to plant a kiss on my lips.

“That’s more like it.” I wrapped my arms around her waist and moved down to nuzzle her breasts. “You’re so fucking beautiful.”

“Maybe we have time for a quickie in the shower.” She moaned, melting into me. “I told Alfred I would help with the food.”

“So now you have Alfred doing your bidding too?” I cocked my head to look her in the eyes.

“He offered.” She bent down to kiss me again. “Shower. Now.”

“When did you have time to arrange all of this?”

“Last night.” She pulled at my arm. “I just sent a few texts.”

Two hours later, I sat at the breakfast table out on the terrace with Donata’s friends glaring at me with murder in their eyes. I knew enough of Donata to know that everything she did had a very specific purpose. If we were eating a few feet away from Ava’s murder board, it was because she wanted me to tell her friends about Ava. I wasn’t ready for that. But at the same time, Donata was right. I couldn’t carry this with me forever. I needed to get over it. And the only way to do that was to find Ava’s killer.

Were her friends the right people to get involved? They just might be. When I first had the thought that maybe Ava’s accident hadn’t been an accident, I hired a private investigator. He was able to pull information for me, but it didn’t take long for him to get spooked, which could only mean very powerful people were interested in keeping her death quiet.

I knew from experience that Enzo, Rex, and Santino would follow Donata to the end of the world. A quick trip to a sex club on a recon mission was nothing to them.

“So how’s Wharton?” Donata beamed at Santino then Rex. “Is it any fun?”

“It’s college.” Rex shrugged as his gaze flitted toward Enzo.

The way I understood it, Enzo and Rex were no longer friends. Something to do with Aurora’s death two years ago. Enzo was angry because Rex chose to help Enzo instead of jumping into a burning building to save Aurora. It was all so tragic. The two men would forever be scarred by that night in the Hamptons.

“Santino, I bet all the women are in love with you.”

“Not all.” He winked, then slowly shifted his attention to me.

Yeah, I was the elephant in the room, in my own fucking home.

“So this is really happening?” Santino cut into his Eggs Benedict and took a bite. “You finally made him see reason?”

“I don’t understand what we’re doing here.” Rex tossed his napkin on the table and sat back. “This asshole took advantage of you.”

“Oh right.” Donata took a long sip of her mimosa. “I forgot about that part.”

“You do that a lot.” I took a forkful of my scrambled eggs then washed them down with black coffee.

“What am I missing?” Rex shot me a deadly glare.

Donata’s cheeks turned bright pink. After five years, she finally had to come clean about all the lies she’d told about me. Granted, most of the things she accused me of back then, I was now one hundred percent guilty of—I seduced her with promises of a better grade, made her touch herself in class, just so I could watch her come during my lecture, then I took her virginity after luring her to my home.

“All the stuff I told Aunt Vittoria and you guys about Luca wasn’t true.” The words spilled out of her lips so fast, I wasn’t sure Rex caught any of it.
