Tae Hyun woke to pain and darkness. The back of his head throbbed, and, for a brief, panicked moment, he thought whoever had hit him had damaged his eyesight. Sweat dripped from his forehead as he inhaled thick, musky air that smelled suspiciously like someone’s breath. Then awareness returned and he realized it was his own breath. Someone had put a hood over his head.

Low, smooth vibrations rattled the floor beneath Tae Hyun. He was in a vehicle, probably a van or small truck, and was being taken somewhere. He tried to move his hands and discovered that they’d been tied behind his back. He had no idea how long he’d been knocked out. But his arms and hands hadn’t fallen asleep, so it couldn’t have been too long.

“The boss is gonna be pissed when he finds out you shot the big one.”

Tae Hyun nearly jumped at the sound of the rough, raspy voice, but his mind was still too foggy for his body to react. The voice came from the direction his feet were pointing. That must’ve been the front of the van.

“I doubt it,” answered a deep, gravelly voice from the same direction. “The big one’s a bodyguard, not the target.”

They were talking about Seong Min. Which meant Tae Hyun’s hazy memory of an almost deafening bang and seeing him slam against the corridor wall was real, and he’d definitely been shot. Muted panic swirled at the edges of his thoughts, interrupted only by a second realization. If Seong Min was the bodyguard, Tae Hyun was the target. And they were being kidnapped.

“Wait. He’s not the guy’s boyfriend?”

“Not unless he’s got two.” Deep Voice chuckled. “Did you even look at the photos the boss sent? For all you know, they’re not even the right fucking guys.”

Raspy Voice huffed. “Don’t fucking start with me. I didn’t shoot anyone.”

Deep Voice scoffed. “Oh, come on. That guy was like hitting a brick fucking wall. It was the only way I could think of to knock him down.” He scoffed again. “Besides, you’re the one who hit the target over the head.”

“Oh? So, should I have let him run away? Would that have made the boss happy?”

“He was pretty fast. Who knew idols could handle themselves like that?”

Raspy Voice snorted. “Probably all the dancing. And he already did his military service, too.”

Deep Voice loudly scoffed. “That doesn’t mean shit. My brother-in-law’s in the army, and my grandmother could still knock him down.”

Tae Hyun lay on his back, so he tried rolling onto his side and ran into something heavy beside him. He yelped before he could stop himself.

“Shit,” Deep Voice exclaimed, “he’s already awake!”

Tae Hyun mentally cursed himself for being so careless. He gingerly felt for whatever it was beside him as best he could with his tied hands and heard a gasp.

“Seong Min?”

“Sorry, sir. You startled me.”

“Keep it down back there,” called out Raspy Voice.

Tae Hyun ignored him. “Are you alright?”

“I don’t know. I think so.”

Raspy Voice scoffed. “Hey, I said-”

“We fucking heard you,” Tae Hyun bitterly spat. “Tell me what the hell’s going on. What do you want with us?”

“I want you to shut the fuck up.”

Tae Hyun huffed. “You can’t do this. You’d better let us go before–”

“I said shut the fuck up! Unless you want to get bashed on the head again.”

“Didn’t your boss say he wanted us unharmed?”

Deep Voice snorted. “Shit, how long has he been awake?”
