“That sounds like a great way to end the night,” I said.

“The best way to end every night,ma petite.”

“Now I half want to fail so I can just come home to you.”

“We must heal our Wicked Truth before we think of our own pleasure,ma petite.”

“Of course,” I said.

We hung up and then I felt him like a cool wind making me shiver in the cold, but it was missing that edge of warmth that sparked so much between us. Then I could see him in the big bed. The sheets this week were a royal blue that framed his long black hair and his pale upper body. The cross-shaped burn scar on his chest was shinier than the skin around it, but it wasn’t an imperfection. It was just part of his body, a different texture to run my fingers and mouth over. The shine of the blue silk turned his eyes from midnight blue to almost as blue as the sheets. I loved when his eyes changed from the sheets, or his shirt, anything that was a lighter blue than his eyes.

“God, you’re so beautiful,” I said.

He gave that smile that let me know he knew exactly how beautiful he was and the effect he had on me. In the beginning I’d resented how attracted I was to him; I thought it stole my control. I hadn’t realized that love always steals our control, it’s just part of how it works.

“Ma petite, ma petite, come to bed.”

I shivered so hard it almost made me stumble. “How can anyone resist you?”

“I do not want you to resist me,ma petite.”

“I gave up trying to resist temptation where you’re concerned,” I said.

“Then give in to the temptation that is our Wicked Truth and bring them home.” He closed the link down and I was left standing in the hospital room with my skin still covered in goose bumps. One minute I was basking in the afterglow, the next it was like the lights had been turned off again.

“I felt you reconnect with him, and then it was just gone again,” Ethan said.

“Damn it,” I said.

“Jean-Claude told you to give in to the temptation that is us, but unless theardeuris inside you to take away our pain, I don’t think we will be very tempting,” Truth said.

“I’m so not in the mood to have sex in a hospital room,” I said.

“Even to have a chance to heal the Wicked Truth?” Ethan said.

“Of course I want to heal them, that’s why I came to the hospital and didn’t go home with Jean-Claude.”

“Jean-Claude wants you to give in to temptation and do what he can’t, heal them,” he said.

“So if I happen to find myself in the mood you want me to just go for it, in case it fixes theardeur?”

They all said yes in unison. It made me shake my head. “Fine, if the mood hits me I won’t fight it, but until that happens let’s concentrate on a different problem.”

“Did Jean-Claude say that Queenie damaged his connection to you on purpose?” Ru asked.

“He’s not sure, but either she did it on purpose or she did it by accident,” I said.

“If she did it by accident, we can’t trust her abilities,” Ethan said.

“And if she did it on purpose, we can’t trust her,” Nicky said.

“Would Kaazim know which is more likely?” I asked.

“He’s her animal to call, Anita, he may not be able to answer us,” Ru said.

“Why not?”

“Because she is his master.”
