“No. Just no.”

“And there’s my orc king.”

I grunted. Extra loud. On purpose. “You’re married to him now.”

She squeezed my arm in hers. “Good. Because now I can tell other women to keep their hands to themselves.”

“Hey, that was only the one time. And to be fair, the woman was pretty drunk.”

“Still. You’re mine.”

“If it wouldn’t scandalize everyone, I’d take off my shirt and jacket to proudly display my latest tattoo. That way they’d all see I’m yours.”

I’d gotten another grown wolf on my arm for Emmy, to better reflect my new life. I would add any other kids we might have in the future. Although we were both waiting a little while before that happened.

“I’ll have to stare at your tat later. Maybe even trace it with my tongue.”

With a growl, I twirled her out onto the dance floor and then pulled her close. A slower-paced song played, and I gently moved her around the space. “I hope you’re not planning to spend much time outside our cabin on Lake Tahoe. Because I want our honeymoon to be spent mostly naked.”

“Well, it’s colder there, so I definitely need your heat to keep me warm.”

I leaned down and gently kissed my wife. “Are you sure we can’t leave now?”

“No, we still have to cut the cake.”

I smiled as I remembered Amber’s face when we’d shown her our design. “While being naked with you will always take the cake”—Emmy groaned—“I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”

The cake was four layers, each one designed by the four of us. Mine was winery related for my family, Emmy’s was the normal flower-type stuff for weddings, Avery’s was cats and unicorns, and Wyatt’s was soccer and horses.

So, yes, definitely a unique wedding cake.

It also had candy inside one of the layers, as a surprise. Because Avery knew Aunt Lori loved those types of cakes, and without my aunt asking me to come back to Starry Hills, I never would’ve made Emmy my wife, so we’d wanted to honor her as well.

The music died down, and Abby announced it was time for the cake. I took Emmy’s hand in mine, and we made it over to the cake-cutting area.

Together, we cut the bottom layer—the one with cats and unicorns—and bright-colored chocolate candy spilled out. Aunt Lori laughed as Avery explained it was for her.

Soon everyone finished eating, and we were able to hug the kids, tell them to behave for Aunt Lori and their Uncles Beck and Zach, and escaped to my waiting car.

And as we drove to Tahoe for our honeymoon, we blared Disney songs and sang the entire way.

One day we’d also do this kind of trip with our kids. But for now, my wife and I started our new life with laughter and song, our future brighter than we had ever hoped for.
