He chuckled. “Booting?”

“Official term.”

Zack grinned wider. “I love you so much, Sadie Egorov.”

I laughed. “Phew, because I’ve put you through a lot. Possibly more than most.”

He laughed and brought me into him as we walked over to a place to sit as the sun went down.

“I wouldn’t change it for the world, Sadie. Not one second.”

“Not even one physical therapy session?” I teased, knowing how much work he'd put in to be where he was today.

His eyes stayed on mine. “No, because you were there with me on every single one of them.”

My heart filled with so much love I almost didn’t know what to do or say.

“I love you so much, Zack. I just… I’m so sorry I put you through that uncertainty. I just…”

“Sadie, you never have to apologize to me. We got where we were meant to be.”

“I thought I was going to lose you that day,” I whispered, looking into his eyes.

“Then we’re even.” He kept his gaze on me. “The thought of living in this world without you seemed like a death sentence on its own.”

He kept his fingers looped through mine. “You have to promise me a few things, Sadie.”

I turned to face him and tucked my leg underneath me. “Yeah? Like what?”

Zack’s mouth curled into a delicious smile. “Lots of babies. Lots of dogs. A few horses. Maybe a dozen goats. A few chickens.”

I laughed. “Are you the same Zack Parker from Granite Peak Security? The one who’d leave for weeks at a time to go fight the bad guys?”

He smiled and scooped me onto his lap. “I’m ready to start helping the good guys, Sadie. Your dream is my dream.”

My chest filled with such adoration for this man.

This big, burly man.

With the heart of a tender chipmunk.

“What’s that goofy look for?” he asked, etching his thumb against my brow.

“Just picturing you as a chipmunk.”

He cocked his head slightly and laughed. “Should I be worried? I wasn’t quite ready for this phase of the relationship.”

I chuckled and let out a deep breath before resting my head on his chest.

“You’re my everything, Zack Parker. Forever and more.” I lifted my head. “Thank you for saving me from myself.”

Chapter Twenty-Four

Zack

Having Sadie in my arms felt like all the worries of the world no longer mattered. She was here. She was mine.

Lines were crossed that I never imagined, but sometimes, love makes you realize what’s worth fighting for.
