Yellow and Pink raced to the bottom of the Ferris wheel, ripping the victim away from the entrance to the ride that looked like a huge, haunted ship, swinging violently back and forth.

I had no idea what the ghost was thinking running there. Maybe they were hoping that they would be able to make it far enough and that the people chasing her were stupid enough to race right into the boat’s path.

Something I would have much rather witnessed than what they were about to do.

Yellow tackled her to the ground while Pink readied the knife.

“We should find another of our own,” Dylan said, the suddenness of his voice in my ear making my head to snap toward him in surprise.

Luckily, with the mask still fastened to my face, I didn’t have to hide my disgust.

He was looking over the scene, his mask pulsing blue light in the darkness surrounding the park. Splatters of blood from when I’d struck Jenna decorated his face, causing gaps in the lights lining his mask like a paint splatter.

“There is nowe,” I hissed.

He turned to me just slightly. A move I knew all too well. One that was almost always accompanied with some type of annoying smirk.

“Then why are you still here?” he asked.

I held up my weapon to him.

“You said you’d show me,” I growled. “I didn’t think you’d lead me around the park with those idiots.”

He turned in full, taking a menacing step forward.

“Those idiots areLegacies,” he said, his voice lowering. “Legacies that are about to have more points thanyou. Watch your tone with them.”

I turned to face him as well, standing straighter and looking down at him.

He paused, as if just noticing how much I had grown since we last stood face-to-face like this.

I wasn’t a little kid he could push around anymore. Now, I was ready and willing to fight back—he’d already seen what I was capable of back in the haunted house.

If I was pushed, there was no doubt in my mind. I’d kill him. I owed him one for the bullshit he’d pulled last year anyway.

“So what?” I hedged. “What makes Legacies so special? Special enough that they can enter the gamestwicejust for a little fun? Killing anyone they want? Don’t think I haven’t noticed your attitude. You don’t care to win, so why else are you here, hm?”

He let out a laugh.

“I’m here to save our family’s reputation. Saveyoufrom looking like a coward,” he said. “Who knew your pathetic ass would show up at the last minute? Honestly, you should’ve just stayed home. You got a kill, sure, but you’re embarrassing yourself.”

My hands balled into fists at my side, itching to connect with his face. It would feel so fucking good to split his lip with my knuckles.

Finally, some blood to deliver to my goddess.

“You say that, but really, I think you’re just trying to take advantage of the chaos. Maybe just like all the other winners, you got a taste of something you liked, and this has been your chance to let the world know what type of monsterreallyhides behind that mask.”

Dylan let out a scoff, his large hand squeezing my shoulder. He leaned in, lowering his voice. “Don’t worry, Kohl, I won’t tell your viewers how excited you were to catch your victim. Maybe then you can stay up on that high horse of yours. At least for another few hours.”

His words shocked me. So much so, that when I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out.

Hypocrite. The word swirled around my head like a chant.

Of course I was excited. It was only natural that getting closer to winning felt good… But then there was something else.

A part of me hated it, this game that I was playing… but a bigger part enjoyed the act of chasing them down. Of ramming my metal weapon into them over and over again. Watching as the blood pooled in a sticky puddle at my feet. At the way that Jenna’s stopped struggling as her eyes went glassy in death.

I even liked the attention from the viewers. The comments and praises rolling in for what I’d done, encouraging me to do more. Worse.
