Inside, was a fist full of the most exciting gift I’d ever seen.Bullets.

My luck was finally turning around.

I loaded my gun quickly, dumping the rest of the bullets into the side pocket of my cargo pants. At the bottom of the container was a small piece of folded paper, about the size of a fortune cookie slip. I pulled it out, flipping it around so I could read it.

Hope you don’t have to put one of these in them. Cheers, wh1t3_r4bb1t!

I crumpled the piece of paper in my fist, turning to look at the closest camera and blowing an exaggerated kiss before throwing myself into a run toward the tunnel of love.

Kohl wasn’t stupid enough to betray me.

I hoped.

With a heavy heart, I left the sanctuary of the house of mirrors.

Luckily, there was no one around as I exited. I cast my gaze over to the lights of the park. Their soft glow lighting the night sky and hiding the stars from view.

Vic being here changedeverything.

Before the house of mirrors, I wanted to win for her. Now, I would fight to make sure she was the last one standing. It was the least she deserved after everything.

I set off back toward the games, looking to find more weapons. I wanted to gather what I could before meeting her again. Now that I had someone to protect, I couldn’t rely on the brute force that I had been using for the first few hours. I could be reckless when it came to myself, only trying to see it through for the payoff at the end, but I vowed to Vic that we would get out of here.

Together.

I had a taste of her once, but this… this was something different entirely.

It was a bittersweet feeling that it had to happennowafter all this time. Especially since we were supposed to be out for each other’s throats.

But I never took myself as a rule follower.

The sound of booming laughter cutting through the night air made my head snap toward the sound.

Dylan and his friends were making their way down the walkway, totally oblivious to me.

Already? I thought I have more time before they found me.

Panic seized my throat. I hadn’t prepared my spiel and I only had one chance to sell this.

If Dylan found out that Vic was here… what would he do?It was no secret that Vic practically broke his heart.

He’d been blindsided after the crash, not a cell in his arrogant being could evenfathomwhy Vic had been the one to break up withhim. It wasn’t a surprise to me, or I bet anyone else around him. Vic and Dylan had been so mismatched that it’d been a common gossip topic around school. Why wouldVicdatehiminstead of any of the football players that flocked to her side.

He would hurt her.

That much I was sure of. Especially in that white rabbit mask of hers. He wouldn’t be able to hold himself back.

Meaning I needed to get them away from here.

I brought two fingers to my mouth and blew. The sharp sound of my whistle making them pause, weapons readied as they looked around.

Dylan’s pose relaxed immediately after spotting me.

“You should’ve given us a heads-up that you were off for another point.” he called, laughing. “I was almost worried.”
