His words caused me to look down at my outfit. It was all black, but the blood had seeped into the fabric and was still wet—hard to miss. My exposed midriff was a mess, with bloodied handprints dragging down, disappearing into my pants.

Fuck. Could they tell what happened?

“I couldn’t miss my chance,” I said, sending him a strained smile, though I knew he couldn’t see it under the mask. It was more of a reminder to myself to keep a friendly attitude with him or else suffer the consequences. “There’s more though. Two at least. I think I saw them take off that way.” I jerked my thumb backward, motioning in the opposite direction of the house of mirrors.

I had three objectives.

Get them the fuck away from here.

Lose them on the way.

Get to the tunnel of love.

Easy, right? They would run at the chance to get a victim under their belt.

Pink and Yellow were already foaming at the mouth for a chance to get another point, ready to race off in the direction I pointed. Yellow even took a few steps forward.

It was Dylan who stood back, his eyes taking in my form.

Face stone-cold. Like your father’s. You have seen it done over and over again. Don’t let them see through you.

It was Dylan who was more likely to lose his cool. If I could just distract him for a bit, I would be in the clear.

The issue was convincing him.I cursed myself for being so uncooperative until now.

He moved his mask to the side, giving me a look at his face.

There was a chilling smirk slowly spreading across it.

“Don’t want to show off what you did?” he asked, closing the distance between us.

Pink and Yellow looked over to each other, suddenly unsure of what he was doing. The tension rose, causing the hair to stand on the back of my neck.

“I left quite the mess.” I said, hating the nervous laughter that spilled from my lips. “Trust me—it’ll be better in the replay.”

I slipped up. Already. It’d only taken a second for him to realize that I was hiding something. Just like healwaysdid. He caught something he shouldn’t have and latched onto it like a fucking parasite.

He came to a stop in front of me, and I had to tilt my head down to look at him. I gritted my teeth, the need to slam my fist into that face of his taking over every other rational thought in my mind.

“Seems like you had a bit of fun, hm?” he asked, turning his knife to the side and letting the dull flat of the blade brush across Vic’s handprint.

I clamped down on the shiver of disgust, determined to not let him show how much his touch messed with me.

“Too much,” I said, turning my voice cold. “I wouldn’t go in there if I were you. I… lost myself. Opened the chest cavity and disemboweled her. We’d be better off moving on to catch up with the next one.”

“Oh, sick, bro,” Yellow said with a gag.

Dylan’s eyes were watching mine. There was a warning in them. He was warning me that if I didn’t tell him what was going on, he sure as hell was going to find it out on his own.

He could try, but I’d protect Vic with everything I had.

The sound of our trackers went off, filling the air and interrupting our stare down.

He looked at his first, but not before stepping away and turning his back on me. I used that chance to peek at mine.

+1 point for creativity

“Let’s get on with it then,” Dylan said, his voice stiff.
