“Sorry, honey, I didn’t mean to make you wait so long,” Gale said, her tone in stark contrast to what she was like on stage.

Blake sent her a smile, though there was still a noticeable tenseness about her.

“That’s okay,” she said, turning to the girl. “I know you have your routine. Let’s head to our room, shall we?”

“You got it,” Gale said, the smile obvious in her tone. “Feeling like a massage today? You got pretty tight up there for a minute.”

Their voices trailed as Blake left with her, leaving Sloan all alone in the room. She didn’t move from her spot as she watched them. Her eyes scanned the room, pausing at my hiding place.

All of my hair stood on end. Seconds ticked by as she looked over the closet before she got up and stalked toward it.

Shit.I held my breath and went impossibly still.I could take her.She was tall but lean, with little muscle mass. But the owner would catch on quickly.

Sloan was sort of a criminal herself, but Ax? She was something else entirely and I did not want to chance her figuring out about me.

Her hand reached forward, but it passed by the closet and toward the vanities on either side of it. When her hand pulled back, I caught sight of a half-empty cocktail glass.

She let out a huff and shook her head before turning and exiting the dressing room.

I didn’t breathe for at least another minute after she left.

Fuck that was close.

Carefully, I slipped out of the closet and straightened my impossibly itchy suit. I had the urge to rip it from my skin, even if it meant running through the club half naked.

But no matter, I learned something new about the little agent.

The little eavesdropping had given me exactly the right ammo I needed. But I needed to be quick or risk Blake coming back before I had a chance to get the heartbroken Bailey under control.

I left the dressing room, following the hallways back into the club and out to the common area. My shoes clicked against the marble floor, the sound echoing through the empty hallway but was soon muffled by the livelier common area.

Finding Bailey was easy. Heartbroken people tended to react in two ways: get fucked or get drunk. And based on her reaction to Blake, I knew which one she would pick.

She was sitting at the bar, knocking back a martini. She was still angry, fuming really, her face almost matching the color of her hair.

I had wished that she had left the place entirely, but I guess I could work with it.

While people didn't get drunk at the club, most everyone was sufficiently distracted, whether by their partners or some of the live shows, so it was easy to slip into the crowd and enter the bar without catching attention.

She slammed her drink down on the bar with an exaggerated huff and ordered another. The bartender gave her a strained smile, almost as if she had seen one too many of these episodes of hers. Even people who were lingering around the bar cast a sideways glance at her, and when she turned her head around, looking at each one of them in the eyes, they quickly averted their gaze.

So she must fight with Blake like this often.

Here, I thought they were partners with little issues, but as I walked myself to the bar, I found myself increasingly more excited that they had problems.

“I’ll have a gin and tonic,” I said to the bartender as she handed a martini to the girl.

She gave me a quick nod before getting started on my drink.

“Rough night?” I asked, my gaze cutting to the girls’. I tried to get close enough to the dressing room to hear their conversation, but then that tall, pierced girl came, and I knew I was better off just waiting outside.

“Whatever you want, I'm not interested,” she murmured under her breath. Her reaction surprised me, but it didn’t deter me. The longer she was around the secret agent, the longer it would take for me to get close to her.

“I’m taking that as a yes,” I said with a light laugh. I thanked the bartender as she gave me my drink. I made a show of sipping on it and leaned against the bar to get a better look at the woman.

The anger was obvious on her face. Her eyebrows were pinched together, and there was a deep scowl on her face. One that guaranteed to scare away all other suitors.

No wonder Blake was the one in the relationship getting all the pussy.
