“Wow.” My eyes widen at his confession. “And you guys get along?

He scoffs. “Of course we do. Except maybe with the panthers, but they don’t get along with anybody.”

“What about vamp—”

He cuts me off. “Yes. We get along with vampires. Vampires are nice, at least the ones I’ve met are.”

I open my mouth to ask another question, but he cuts me off.

“You can ask any question you want to, but we can talk about this later. Right now, you’re stalling.” He looks at me, daring me to argue.

“I’m scared,” I admit, my heart racing faster.

Will stands up from the couch. “Come on, Henley. I’ll give you a ride to Parker’s house.”

Oh, gosh.

Am I really going to do this?

“Are you sure he won’t send me away?” I ask.

He nods. “I promise. Parker adores you.”

My heart swells at his words. I stand up from the couch and allow Will to lead me to his car.

No matter what, I’m doing this. There is no way Will is going to let me back out now.

I’m not hiding anymore.

When Will pulls his car to a stop in front of Parker’s house, I don’t move to get out. Instead, I clutch onto the strap of my seatbelt, my fist turning white.

“You’ve got this,” Will says, trying to encourage me. “Just… maybe don’t show him your wings inside. His room isn’t big enough.”

My stomach churns.

Am I really going to show Parker my wings?

I take a deep breath, slowly releasing it.

Big deal. I have wings. Parker can shift into a wolf. It’s totally normal. We’re supernatural creatures, not human. He’s seen me die twice and come back to life—the second time I went up in flames. If that didn’t scare him away, nothing will.

I unbuckle my seatbelt, slowly reaching for the door handle.

I turn to look at Will one last time. “Thank you for bringing me over here. If Parker sends me away, promise you’ll write to me?”

Will grins. “I won’t let Parker send you away.”

Will knows the truth about me already. If he knows and hasn’t sent me away, Parker won’t. Because at least Parker likes me. Will doesn’t. Or didn’t. I’m not sure anymore.

“Are we friends?” I ask Will, wanting clarification.

“Unfortunately,” he answers, his lips turning up in the corners. “And as your friend, it’s my duty to tell you that you’re still stalling.”

“Fine.” I open the door and climb out. I look at Will one last time. He gives me an encouraging smile, so I shut the door and walk to Parker’s front door. I knock, my heart racing so fast that I’m sure everybody inside can hear.

When the door opens, I’m surprised to see Parker standing on the other side. He gives me a curious look and glances behind me.
