If I knew he would react like this to me showing him my wings, I would’ve shown him a long time ago—the very night it happened.

I lean into his embrace, letting him devour my lips. Maybe it’s a bad idea. He’s waiting on his soulmate. But I don’t care. When his soulmate comes, I will fight her for him. Because nobody is taking Parker away from me. I don’t even care if it’s against the rules.

Parker is mine.

I tangle my fingers in his hair. He growls and I know without looking that his eyes are probably amber right now.

My stomach is full of butterflies.

How is this real?

When this is over, I don’t think I could stand it if Parker sent me away. My heart is too invested now.

When Parker’s lips pull away, I feel a tightness in my chest.

“Don’t give me that look.” Parker doesn’t move back from our embrace. He keeps me tight in his arms. “I don’t want to stop kissing you, but we should talk.”

“I can think of something much better that we can do with our lips. Talking is such a waste.”

“We aren’t done kissing yet.” His hand brushes over my wings again. “I’ve never seen anything like you before. You’re one of a kind.”

Chills erupt on my skin as he lightly touches my wings.

“You can feel that?” Parker’s lips part.

“It’s like any other body part.” I move them, flapping them slightly. “And I can fly.”

His eyes widen. “It was you, not a dragon.”

I nod, confirming. “Sorry about that. I just couldn’t tell you then. I know I should have. And if I knew you were going to kiss me when I showed you, I would’ve showed you a long time ago. I was just scared you would send me away.”

“I will never send you away.” He tightens his arms around me. “You’re staying with me forever.”

I dare to glance up. “But what about when you meet your soulmate?”

Parker furrows his brows. “Henley, do you not know?”

“Know what?”

He loosens his grip and steps back slightly so he can look at me. He grabs ahold of my hand, like he can’t stand to not be touching me. “I forget, you haven’t been taught like I have. But Henley, youaremy mate. After you showed me your wings, the bond revealed itself.”

“What?” My skin tingles as I realize the rightness of his words.

“It’s why we felt so strongly for one another when we met,” Parker says. “It’s why I block the voices for you. And it’s why I’ve fallen so hard for you after such a short amount of time.”

“You felt strongly for me when we met?” I look at Parker through my lashes.

His grin widens. “How did you not know? I thought it was obvious.”

“Not to me,” I admit. “I tried so hard to just think of you as a friend after what Blaine and Will said about soulmates, but I couldn’t.”

“You don’t have to anymore. We can be together.” Parker holds onto my hand, lacing our fingers together. “Nobody can take you away from me.”

My heart skip a beat. “I just can’t believe it. I mean… after all this time of thinking we can’t be together…”

Parker pulls me closer to him. “I should have known before. The way I’ve always felt about you is fate.”

I relax into his arms.
