He’s not going to send me away.

We’re in this together.

“We need to show my dad.” His finger brushes against my wings.

My entire body tenses. “I don’t know…”

“Nobody is sending you away, Henley. I promise you.” He kisses me on the forehead. “We can wait a little while if you want. I do want to tell them about us though. I want everybody to know. The pack will want to celebrate.”

“They won’t care that you’re mated to somebody who isn’t a wolf shifter?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “I promise, nobody will mind. We have a few hybrids in our pack. We welcome them.”

I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear. “So what happens now?”

“What do you mean?” Parker asks.

“Are you my boyfriend?”

He grins. “I’m so much more than just your boyfriend, Henley. I’m your soulmate.”

My heart swells. “And what does that entail?”

“It means that we get to be together,” he answers. “You’re it for me. Forever.”

Forever.

I like the sound of that.

“Let’s go tell your family.” I start to lead him toward the path, but Parker tugs on my hand to stop me.

He points behind me. “I’m not sure your wings will fit through the trees.”

“Oh, right.” I will them to go away.

His jaw drops open. “You’re really good at doing that.”

I shrug. “They’re part of me. I can still feel them, but they’re hidden.”

“Kind of like my wolf,” Parker says. He tugs on my hand. “Let’s go. My dad knows something is up. He felt a huge surge of power when we found out we are mated and he wants to know what’s going on.”

My eyes widen. “Power?”

He nods. “There is nothing more powerful than a mate bond. It was especially strong because I’m an alpha and you’re… whatever you are.”

“Does it bother you terribly that we don’t know what I am?” I worry my bottom lip between my teeth.

“No. I don’t care what you are—you’re mine. That’s all I need to know.”

I’m his.

I like the sound of that.

As we walk through the path, I think about the feeling I get when we touch—the feeling I’ve always got.

“When we touch, you don’t just silence the voices,” I tell Parker. “I also feel this peace that I can’t explain. It’s like everything is calm when we’re touching. I don’t even know if I’m explaining it right. It’s hard to put into words.”

Parker stops, turning to face me. “It’s the mate bond. I felt it too, but I think I was too afraid to accept it. I was worried it wouldn’t be real. I wanted it so bad.”
