I shrug, not knowing what to say.

Yes, the nose bleeds are normal. So are the headaches, the vomiting. I’ve had to live with it my whole life. It’s why I’m better off not having friends.

He looks at me, raising an eyebrow. “You’re not giving me a lot to work with here.”

“What do you want to know?” I ask.

“Do you know what I am?”

Whathe is.

It’s the second time I’ve heard him use the wordwhatin that context, but it doesn’t make any more sense now than it did yesterday.

“You’re Parker—one of the nefarious three.”

He shakes his head. “You know, I can’t figure you out. Whatever you’re hiding will come out eventually. I don’t trust you.”

I look at him, waiting for an explanation, but he never gives me one. Instead, he just turns and storms off. I’ve never actually wanted to read somebody’s mind before, but I kind of wish I could read his. I want to know what his problem is.

Noticing the time, I head toward my first period class. I slip into my desk beside Will just as the bell rings. The teacher gets up to start class, but I can’t hear a word she’s saying.

Henley…Henley…

Maybe she’s not shy.

I can’t wait to talk to her.

Henley…

…wonder what…

I can’t believe Parker was…

Henley… Henley…

Everybody screams their thoughts. It feels like a hammer being hit onto my skull. My hand twitches and the room begins to spin.

No. Not now.

I feel myself falling, but I can’t catch myself. At the last second, I feel somebody stop me from hitting my head on the floor. My body moves and jerks. It only gets worse as everybody stands up from their desk, looking at me. They’re all thinking aboutme. And all I want is for them to shut up.

There is a sense of weightlessness. I feel a hand touch my leg and my body stops jerking instantly. All of the voices go silent.

“I’m taking her to the nurse,” the voice says.

I sigh at the sense of peace that I feel. I’ve never had an episode pass that quickly before. It usually takes mehours, sometimes days, before I can snap out of it.

As the door shuts behind us, I look up into the eyes of my savior.

“Parker?”

He’s not in my first period class.

“Hold on. I’m taking you to the nurse.”

“No.”

He pauses. “Henley, you had a seizure.”
