He snorts. “You’re practically dating my future alpha. I’m not bossy—Parker is.”

Futurealpha?

That gets my legs moving. I pace beside Will, whose legs are a lot longer than mine. I practically have to run to keep up with him.

“What do you mean by future alpha?” I ask.

Will leads me to a path in the woods behind the house. It looks well worn, like many people frequently walk through here.

“Is this where you live?”

“Yes, this is my house. And by future alpha, I mean exactly what I say. Parker is the future alpha of our pack. He’ll take over for his dad when he’s older.” Will glances at me over his shoulder.

I blink, trying to absorb the information he’s giving me.

Will has to be crazy.

Right?

He remains quiet as I pace behind him and I hope he’s not leading me toward a trap. Maybe he’s brought me out here to murder me. But I need answers and Will is the only person willing to give them to me.

“Parker and I aren’t dating,” I tell Will. “He’s just helping me with something.”

He shoots a look at me over his shoulder. “Right. He’s helping you so he has to hold your hand?”

“Because his touch is the trigger. I know you don’t understand, but he stops the voices. It’s why my seizure stopped that day when he picked me up,” I explain.

He pauses, turning toward me. “I touched you and it didn’t help.”

“No, it didn’t help. But thank you for saving me from hitting my head.”

“SojustParker helps?”

“Yeah.” I look down, hating how that sounds. I take a deep breath before meeting Will’s brown eyes. “Parker and I are just friends.”

“But you like him as more than a friend.”

“No,” I deny.

He snorts. “You can’t lie to me.”

“I’m not lying.”

He gently grabs onto my wrist and tugs me with him. I don’t fight against him because I want him to tell me whatever he’s going to say. I’m so close to answers. I just hope he isn’t dragging me into the woods so he can murder me and bury my body where nobody will ever find it.

“When I say that you can’t lie to me, I mean it. I can taste your lies,” Will says.

Before I can even try to comprehend what he’s said, he comes to an abrupt halt. He lets go of my wrist and turns to face me.

We’ve walked a good distance into the woods, but I’m confident I can find my way out if I need to. The path is still visible.

“Why did you bring me into the woods?” I ask.

“Because I want to show you something.”

I stand there, waiting for him to explain. But he doesn’t. I watch and wait, wondering what he’s doing. I’m about to ask when I notice his eyes change colors. They go from their normal color of brown to an almost golden brown, with flecks of amber in it. It reminds me of yesterday when Parker’s eyes started to change.

Will’s entire body vibrates. Suddenly, he’s gone. And in his place, there is a wolf with a dark brown coat. It looks up at me, like it’s expecting something.
