“I do. Keep going. I was mangled and dead. What happened then?” I ask.

“Your entire body went up in flames.” Parker’s blue eyes meet mine. He pauses, giving me time to comprehend what he’s saying. “When the fire died down, you were lying in a pile of ashes, but your body was whole again. There was no evidence that the accident had even happened. And you were alive again. You were breathing.”

My eyes widen. “How did the driver react to that?”

“He threw up again.” Will laughs. “Then I compelled him and he left, like it never happened. The only proof is the dent in his bumper.”

I cringe at the fact that my body left a dent in somebody’s bumper. I guess that explains the intense pain I felt, even if only for a moment. The pain was so fleeting, it almost feels like I dreamt it.

“What would happen if the same thing happened to a wolf shifter?” I ask.

Parker and Will share another look.

I huff. “That’s annoying. Just answer my question. Out loud. I’m not going to freak out.”

Parker clears his throat. “A wolf shifter would have died. Wolves heal fastener than humans, but we’re not invincible. We live, we grow old, and we die. Maybe our lifespans are slightly longer in comparison, but even wolves sometimes die young.”

“But not me.” I look up at Parker. “What am I?”

He shakes his head. “I wish I knew. But nobody can cheat death. I don’t know how you’re alive right now.”

I stand up from the bed, making my way toward Parker’s dresser. It’s got a mirror attached to the top and I need to see myself.

I look at myself in the mirror, checking out my features. Nothing looks different, except… There is no bruise, no scar, no marks, nothing. My skin looks brand new.

“I used to have a scar,” I mumble.

“What?” Parker steps closer.

I point under my chin. “I used to have a scar here. When I was a kid, I had a seizure on the subway. I hit my chin on the seat and had to get stitches. I had a small scar here, but it’s gone now.”

“Are you sure it hadn’t faded and you didn’t notice?” Will asks, walking closer to us.

“It was there this morning,” I tell him. “I know what I looked like.”

Parker nods. “I’ve seen your scar. You’re right—it’s gone.”

Will furrows his brows. “Do you have any other scars?”

I pull back my hair, looking at the top of my head near my hairline. I find it blemish free. “I used to have a scar here.”

“What from?” Parker asks.

“Seizure in a grocery store. My head hit a cement wall.”

Will cringes. “Are you sure you haven’t died before?”

Parker turns to glare at his friend. “Maybe you should go home. Henley is safe now. I’ll look out for her.”

Will raises an eyebrow at Parker. “Are you sure that you two should be alone? Or are you forgetting what I saw earlier?”

I lower my head, letting my hair curtain my face. I want to see Parker’s reaction, but I’m scared. We definitely didn’t leave things on good terms, but neither one of us are bringing that up.

Will sighs. “Fine. I’ll go.” He stops in front of me.

I hesitantly look up.

He puts his hand on my shoulder. “I’m glad you’re alive.”
