Gemma Reyes:Dr. Sam is officially the worst. I’m sorry, Liza. *Hugs*

Parker Halstead:Team Miller!

Liza Eckland:Parker! Lol, there’s no team Miller!

Liza didn’t want to go into detail about the experiment she and Miller would be conducting, but also—her best friends would be confused and hurt if they saw posts of her and Miller together on social media. She knew she should fill them in a bit.

Liza Eckland:But… he has agreed to be my date to Liza’s wedding and I told him I would try to help him get his ex-girlfriend back. It’s a long story. I’ll fill you in later!

Parker Halstead:I have so many questions.

Gemma Reyes:Ooo sounds scandalous!

Parker Halstead:It’s also the plot of many romantic comedies… just sayin…

Gemma Reyes:Oh you’re so right Parker! I’ve got my popcorn ready… Team Miller!

Liza rolled her eyes and laughed. She missed her friends. They were her soft place to land. They would defend her to the end, or cheer her on from the stands. Or tell her she was being crazy—well, Parker would anyway. Gemma embraced crazy.

Liza refocused on her list. What can we do to feature Miller’s fun side?Liza tapped her finger to her chin.

Miller walked in and stopped abruptly. “You’re supposed to be resting.”

Liza pointed to the futon. “I’m lying down, so this counts. Besides, I’m feeling fine.” At that moment, a yawn threatened to break through. She did her best to stifle it by sealing her lips together.

Miller must have noticed because he walked over and gently tugged her phone out of her hand. “Rest. I’m gonna shower. When I come back, you better be sleeping.”

Liza saluted him. “Yes, sir.” She smiled to herself.Bossy doctor Miller… I’m kind of a fan.Closing her eyes, she felt herself drifting to sleep.

Liza woke up to the smell of deliciousness wafting through the air.

She stretched out her arms and gently sat up. Following the scent, she walked out to the kitchenette. Miller was standing in front of the stove.

“Hey, good timing. Made you some lunch. Do you like bacon and eggs?”

Liza sat down at the small round table. “I do. It smells amazing.”

As Miller set a plate down in front of her she said, “Thank you.”

Taking a seat, he asked, “How’s your head feeling?”

“My headache is gone. Just a little sore where the bump is, but other than that totally fine. I’m probably good to drive now, right?”

Miller lifted a shoulder. “I don’t know. Maybe you should rest here one more night.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want you to have to sleep on the hard floor again.”

Miller shrugged. “I’m fine.”

“If I’m not mistaken, I think Miller Brooks is a fan of slumber parties.”

He narrowed his eyes at her. “No. It’s just… it’s my fault that you got hurt, so I feel like it’s my responsibility to make sure you don’t… die of head trauma.”

“Uh huh, we’ll go with that.” Liza winked at him.

Miller huffed and took a bite of bacon. Liza enjoyed teasing him. Even though he acted annoyed with her antics, it seemed like he was loosening up the slightest bit—which felt monumental.

Liza scooped a forkful of eggs into her mouth and then crunched on a piece of bacon. “Oh my gosh, this bacon. The eggs are really good too. Chef Miller as well, huh?”
