There was entirely enough of that already. As far as dealers were concerned, death was bad for business.

What did Morgan want Oscar to do?

Solve it.

“Pull Morgan,” he told the officer. “I wanna talk to him.”

The officer stood. “I’ll let my sergeant know.”

A few minutes later, they were in the same room where they’d spoken to Skippy when an officer led a shackled Morgan Alakov into the room. He caught sight of them and made a face. “You guys.”

“Sorry you’re so disappointed.”

Morgan slumped into the chair and used his hands between his knees to scoot up to the table. “Today hasn’t been all bad.”

So Oscar had agreed.“You’ll be here for a long time. No bail, you’re a flight risk. You won’t see the outside of a cell for a long time to come.”

“So? I’ve made peace with my fate.” Morgan stared down his nose at them, which was pretty impressive from a seated position.

“Just like that, you’re gonna give up everything? Take the hit and sit here for decades to come. No fight?” Liam stared right back.

Jasper sipped his coffee as if they had all day.

“What’s my other option?” He looked like a man expecting to be handed a favor.

“You want a sweet deal, then you talk to the prosecutor. But I can’t convince her to lessen the charges or shorten her recommended sentence unless you give me something that will carry weight with her.”

Liam folded his arms and shrugged. Nothing to offer the guy.

Unless he coughed up.

Would it be about the paper he’d handed Oscar—or something else?

“What do you want to know?”

Liam hated the dance as much as he loved it. “Where do I find Raphi Obolensky?”

“Look him up in the phone book.”

“I know where he lives. Where do I find him?”

Morgan grinned. “Might as well ask about the Tooth Fairy. You aren’t gonna find him.” He leaned forward. “Because you don’t find Raphi. Raphi finds you.” He sat back and tipped his head back, cracking up with laughter at his own joke.

“Then get a message to him that I wanna talk.” Liam shrugged one shoulder again, like it was nothing to him.

“What does he want to talk with a cop for?”

“Just tell him it’s me asking.”

“So he knows you’re coming, and he can be ready with a hit squad?” Morgan grinned. “’Cause that’s the only meeting you’re gonna have with an Obolensky.”

“I think he’ll talk to me.”

Morgan’s eyes narrowed. Liam knew something he didn’t, and this guy wanted to know what it was because it irked him that he didn’t. “What do you have going with Raphi?”

“That’s between him and me.”

Morgan obviously didn’t want to get lost in the shuffle, written off as inconsequential. But his face stayed an impassive mask. “So go see him. What do I care? I’m sure he’ll have something special planned for you.”
