Anger already has me in its grip and I don’t even have to guess who the ‘him’ is she’s referring to. “What did that cunt Kazimir do?”

She takes her hands back and pulls her knees to her chest again, laying her head against them and peering up at me with a trembling bottom lip.

“He came into our room while we were sleeping and… he had a stake against your heart while… he threatened… if I said anything…”

My chest simmers with cold fury and I grit my teeth, feeling the blood rush to my head and disgust spiral deep in my stomach.

I brace my elbows on my knees and clench my fists, drawing them to my mouth, trying to control what I know is the start of an outburst.

“Did he touch you?” Four words I did not want to utter escape my mouth and when she nods, I literally see red.

But to my surprise, I don’t react or lash out in anger… I simply scoff and shake my head. “They’re all dead.”

“Wait!” she cries out, grabbing my arm and turning me to face her. “You can’t! He can’t know that I told you!”

I cup her face in both my hands. “My love, he’s been a dead man walking ever since he touched your face. They will all die for this, not just Kazimir,” I promise, placing a light kiss on her forehead.

Her bottom lip trembles, and she falls into my arms, breaking down in tears. I don’t know what is keeping me this calm when I want to ask the pilot to turn this fucking plane around and take me back to Germany.

I want to tear them limb from limb so they can feel the pain I see in her eyes.

But that won’t do me any good.

She was right in not telling me what happened sooner because I would have reacted without thinking. This way I can plan my revenge on them while keeping a calm head; I’ll eliminate them all and they won’t even see me coming.

“Do you… still… love me?”

Her muffled, wet voice cuts through my thoughts and I gently push her away from me so I can look into her eyes.

“Do I still love you? Why would you ask me that, sweet girl? I adore you,” I say, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

She bites her bottom lip and shrugs. “Because I let another man… he touched me and—”

“Katherine,” I growl. “You did not allow him to do anything. Kazimir knows the effect he has on others and, from what I can tell, he scared you into submission. Don’t ever think that I will love you less because of this, because that will never happen. You’re my Fated and soon-to-be mother of my child.”

I wipe her crimson tears and kiss her lips gently. “I will love you until the day I desiccate and even after, but until then, I vow to bring you his head on a fucking silver platter.”

She blinks, biting her bottom lip. “I thought… you’d be angrier than this, that’s why I said nothing,”

“Oh, what I feel isn’t simply fury, little lamb,” I say, giving her a small smile. “I have never felt this calm while needing to rip someone in two. However, you need more than my anger right now. I’m saving it for when I shove Kazimir’s heart down his throat.”

Her face screws up in pain and she throws her arms around my neck again, exhaling a pent-up sigh. “Thank you,” she murmurs, not needing to elaborate on what she’s thankful for.

Katherine kept quiet while giving him those coordinates and codes before we left. She remained calm while we drove to the airport and didn’t utter a word until we were far away from the castle. She kept all that to herself while fighting the urge to break down like this… kept it all in, knowing I would have snapped if I knew what happened.

Kazimir came into our room while I was deep in slumber, touched what belonged to me, violated her in a way I do not even want to think about, and made her feel filthy. He did all this while I slept and knowing I wouldn’t wake up, held a stake to my heart and scared her into silence.

He is not worthy of a swift death, and I’m not kind enough to afford him one.

GABRIEL

The anger has simmered down; now all that’s left is vengeance and a pain in my heart knowing I slept soundly next to Katherine while Kazimir violated her. Pain knowing that someone harmed my Fated and tried to protect me from someone who could easily have killed her.

The broken look in her eyes shouldn’t be there; they should be filled with love and happiness knowing we have our forever together. But our happiness was stolen - and her pain only fuels my vendetta.

I hold her hand and walk out toward the SUV, where Valentine is waiting for us. He’s wearing a relieved expression, but it slips away when he sees the look on my face.

“Welcome home, Pres. Kitty Kat,” he says, nodding to both of us before I open the door for Katherine to get in.
